Astronomical Kid

Some of you may have seen the Astronomical Kid when his videos first started appearing on YouTube, but if you haven’t, it’s worth a listen. The video for “Stop Lookin’ At My Moms” is shot in Brooklyn. It’s great because it’s both funny as hell, in a cute little kid sorta way and at the same time quiet catchy. Almost 600,000 views since it went up in August 2010, but that’s not what prompted me to put the Astronomical youngster up on MCMIreport, in the Youngest In Charge section. It was his flows in the backseat of a car in Crazy Al Cayne’s “Spittin In Da Whip” that made me say, “Hey, this kid is nice!”

ASTRONOMICAL KIDMore important than that (hey, a LOT of kids are nice), he has charisma, knows how to speak to press, has his own unique rhyme style and is a good performer. On top of that, he already proved he can write a good song. The fact that he is talking about something real to him, not making up a bunch of phony gangsta/player/rich boy nonsense is a bonus – this kid speaks from the heart. Listen to his Hustle Hard Remix (Different Hustle) after the jump, and you will see what I mean. All that makes him a real MC and a well rounded artist.

Astronomical KidNow with his own website, the boy is official. Having appeared on several television shows and rocked many stages already, combined with the hits to his website and YouTube videos, the Kid’s in business – for himself – at age 14!

Astronomical KidNot bad, young man, not bad at all. I applaud everything you’ve done so far. Keep making good clean music for your generation, don’t sell out and don’t fall into the trap as you get older, where you think you have to become a drug dealer or pimp in order for folks to take you seriously as an adult MC. Just continue to do YOU, as you have done so far, and let the music speak for itself.
