GMS – TEACHER ft BAMBOO [VIDEO PREMIERE]

The long awaited, most anticipated official music video for TEACHER, by GMS, is finally here! Set to PREMIERE on FRIDAY, March 4th, at 7:00PM on MCMI REPORT. TEACHER is the first single off of GMS debut solo project ALONG THE WAY 777. You can read all about the song and why he wrote it here, but in a nutshell, GMS has been living a dual life as an MC and public school Music and Tech teacher for years. So as true MC’s write about their lived experience, he did a song about it.

The self-produced track features BAMBOO of the Baltimore based Lights Out Crew, on the KRS ONE influenced dancehall chorus. Several other artists are also paid homage to in the video, including Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, Busta Rhymes, Jay Z, Nas, Biggie and Tupac.

The video was shot and co-directed by acclaimed photographer, artist and filmmaker Jarrett Robertson (Skull ‘N’ Tones), on location at the school where GMS (aka Mr. Sibirsky) has worked for the past 15 years. Today’s Lesson includes Hip Hop History, Music Production and Financial Literacy, something sorely needed, but often lacking in public education. 

GMS can be heard on QN5’s ef@mm album (OPC)and Asterisk series, PH (PUMPIKINHEAD)’s Orange Moon Over Brooklyn (MonkeyShine) and Know The Ledge (Never Have), as well as songs with HYDRA (Here I Go Again, Love Is) … and The PLAGUE (Twelve). He has been recording and performing with HYDRA and The PLAGUE for years and was featured in several documentaries including Diggin’ For Weldon Irvine and FREESTYLE: The Art of Rhyme, withthat one viral video clip of Mos Def rhyming in Central Park (yes, GMS is the hippie ‘white Jesus’ look-a-like next to Yasiin in the video), but this is his first solo project! 

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth a million and this one really completes the story told in the lyrics. It is clear GMS is just as passionate about teaching as he is about music and has a great rapport with the kids, but still has bars and beats in 2022! MAKE SURE YOU WATCH (and leave a comment!)
