GMS Drops “ALONG THE WAY 777” Album, NFT + NFC Apparel [MCMI & New York Culture Club]

On July 7, 2023, a date that symbolizes “7/7/7” (2+0+2+3=7), GMS dropped his debut solo album ALONG THE WAY 777, along with NFT’s (Polygon/Ethereum) and Tech-enabled apparel. The project is a collaboration with tech-enabled clothing line NEW YORK CULTURE CLUB and MCMI Records.

This album was years in the making, from before the Pandemic until now. The video for the lead off single TEACHER was started in 2018/2019, before masks, quarantines and the jab. Production was interrupted in 2020 and finally completed in 2021, for the January 2022 release. One year later, the album is here!

There are many ways to experience ALONG THE WAY 777. The top, most exclusive and immersive experience is to own the Tech Enabled Apparel (currently the hat and T-shirt are available), which comes with NFT, artwork, videos, 3D Web3 Assets of the apparel and puts you in an exclusive club of GMS NFT holders.

The clothing and accompanying NFT’s are Limited Edition 1 of 50. For those who travel the worlds of VR and AR, you can get the code for the 3D hat and tee shirt (if you have claimed your NFT) and can then wear the apparel on your avatar in the metaverse.

The album starts off with the lead single TEACHER featuring DMV artist BAMBOO (from Lights Out Crew) who does the Hip Hop/Reggae Chorus, which is about the dichotomy of GMS’ being an Hip Hop artist and Teacher, living a Matt Murdoch / Daredevil existence throughout his career. The video was filmed by Jarret Robertson for JR.NYC (he also does beats as Skull N Tones), directed and edited by Jarret and GMS together.

The second single FREEDOM (HOW WE GET) featuring Chordz Cordero was released earlier this year, also with a video, filmed and directed by Aubrey Jackson for Borderland Films. That song featured GMS behind the boards, keyboard and flute as he handled all production and collaborated with singer/MC Chordz Cordero, who handled the vocals. While GMS does not sing or rap on the song, he does on the Remix, which is on the album, featuring Vic Shadez who produced and also rhymes on the track.

Now that ALONG THE WAY 777 is available, you can hear that and another 4 songs, for now, with new songs being added over the upcoming year “along the way”. Some songs that will be added include Celebrate Life featuring DMV artist Substantial, Freedom (How We Get) Wicked Remix featuring Wicked Tune and an untitled song by HYDRA. Also in the works are a dancehall remix of Teacher and a house remix of Freedom (How We Get).

The idea is that the album keeps growing, it’s a “living document”, music, art, videos and apparel representing the journey. This is my experience and you get to join me “along the way”.
