GMS First Single “TEACHER” drops 1/25/22 – on his Birthday! #AlongTheWay777

It’s great to be back with some awesome news! I am about to drop a brand new, multi-media, Hip Hop music project, “ALONG THE WAY 777” which will LAUNCH this TUESDAY, JANUARY 25th!

This happens to be the 25th ANNIVERSARY of my career as a PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHER. Depending on how well you know me, you may or may not know that it is also – MY BIRTHDAY! (#Aquarius whoot whoot!) I think you can guess what I want this year. A view, a listen, a comment, a share, a download, a subscribe or a follow. First up – the single “TEACHER“, dropping exclusively on BANDCAMP, then on other platforms + limited edition NFT collection.

TEACHER is a song about my duality as an MC and NYC DOE Public School teacher. For most of my life, I have kept these two sides of myself – the music artist and the teacher – separate, but now with this song I am bringing those two worlds together! Read the full Press Release here.

LET ME KEEP IT A BUCK WITH YOU …

I’m a little terrified! Putting myself out there, letting the Hip Hop community know that I teach and the Educational community know that I rap, is exciting, yet scary, but ultimately liberating.

For many years, I have lived with the fear that if my Hip Hop friends and fans knew that I was a teacher, that would be seen as corny, as if there is something wrong with that.

At the same time, I was afraid that if the parents, teachers, administrators and educational higher ups knew that I am an MC, that some of them would look down on that, as if there is something wrong with THAT!

Well, guess what?! There is nothing wrong with any of that!

In fact, it is to be CELEBRATED! There are MANY artists of all kinds who support themselves by teaching. I come from a long line of musician/teachers in this tradition. MOST educators also have a passion – be it art, music, writing, photography, blogging to MMA – TEACHERS HAVE A LIFE OUTSIDE OF WORK, like everyone else!! We do not live under the school, as some of our students think! LOL!
