New Jersey’s independent hip-hop scene continues to push creative boundaries with “4 DEGREES,” an audiovisual anthology series from GIDDT-AVM that blends hip-hop music videos with cinematic storytelling.

Taking inspiration from anthology classics like The Twilight Zone and Tales from the Crypt, the first episode brings together four Hudson County MCs — MENY Myndz, Purest Ghostin, Vic Shadez, and Eddie Dos — for four distinct musical and visual experiences. Producer and engineer Sosick serves as the creative thread connecting the different worlds.
Each segment has its own identity, moving from the eerie, spiritual atmosphere of MENY Myndz’s “TIME,” to Purest Ghostin’s Golden Era-inspired “THE HOP,” before taking a surreal turn with Vic Shadez’s “NEGATIVE ZONE.” Eddie Dos closes things out with “DAYS GO BY,” a reflective, uplifting track about life’s struggles, resilience, and the possibility of healing.
Vic Shadez’s “NEGATIVE ZONE” is a particular standout, pairing his distinctive flow with surreal imagery of collapsing buildings and fractured reality. The result is an immersive experience that pushes beyond the conventional music video format. Vic is a producer as well as an MC and the beat he is rhyming to is a boom bap head-nodder!
What makes “4 DEGREES” especially interesting is its approach to collaboration. Rather than simply packaging four separate videos together, GIDDT-AVM creates a connected creative experience that gives each artist room to express a different perspective while contributing to a larger vision.
In an era dominated by quick, disposable content, it’s refreshing to see independent hip-hop artists and creators investing in a project that puts equal emphasis on music, visuals, and storytelling.
This is like the evolution of the rap cipher. Rather than put the 4 MC’s in a room in front of a mic, to spit bars over beats, this is a video cipher. Each artist steps up with their own video and GIDDT-AVM creates a montage, with mysterious commentary between the segments. Well done.
