MCMI Report: Dezert Eez (feat. Talib Kweli) – Rolex Dreamin’

The Michigan-based crew Dezert Eez kick off their 6th album (since their 2005 debut mixtape, The Realness), with lead single, “Rolex Dreamin’,” which starts off with a verse from the veteran Brooklyn MC Talib Kweli, followed by the trio of 5-Star, Nivek, and O’Nill. Kweli sounds right at home over the jazzy Thovo production. The group shows their confidence by letting him go first. Most people put the celebrity guest feature last on a track, but Dezert Eez have no need to follow that convention.

Hubbs, Skyzoo, DJ Rob Swift freestyle – DJ ECLIPSE Rap Is Out of Control Radio Show

Skyzoo freestyle on Rap Is Out of Control
The art of Freestyle (off the top, that is) is not dead, as evidenced on DJ Eclipse’s Rap Is Out Of Control radio show on Sirius / XM, earlier this month. The show airs on Channel 44, Hip Hop Nation, Sundays 10 to midnight EST and is one of the places you can still find DJing and MCing that is true to real Hip Hop culture.

In this clip, Skyzoo and Hubbs spit some very impressive freestyles while DJ Rob Swift of The X-Ecutioners cut the instrumental. This was to promote Skyzoo’s Music For My Friends, Hubbs’ mixtape Modern Vintage 3 and Rob Swift’s kickstarter campaign for, X-Files: Lost & Deleted, a collection of rare, remixed and reinterpreted songs feat. The Large Professor, J-Live + more! This will be Rob’s first album in six years, which includes a collection of rare, remixed, and reinterpreted songs for both young and old hip hop fans to appreciate.

Don’t forget, Skyzoo is one of the scheduled performers on August 5th, at the PH MEMORIAL TRIBUTE CONCERT, to pay homage to our fallen legend and raise money for his children. Get tickets here: bit.ly/phshowtix

Skyzoo & Antman Wonder – An Ode To Reasonable Doubt

If there is one thing I’ve gathered from listening to Skyoo’s catalogue it’s that he like me thinks Jay Z is one hell of a lyricist. I might even go so far as to say Hov is one if his favorites if not #1 on the fellow Brooklyinites list. So it made perfect sense that he bless us with his newest work “An Ode To Reasonable Doubt”. Dropping the 9 song EP on Shawn Carter’s 44th birthday SK gives us new interpretations of reasonable doubt from his perspective as if he were Jay. With completely new renditions of the original productions by “Antman WonderSkyzoo and Antman Wonder 100% hands down KILL this project, Jay Z should will feel honored and perhaps a little jealous when he hears this. You can get the album at loyaltydigitalcorp.bandcamp.com for whatever you would like to pay, with incentives and rewards to pay at least $7 which is a steal for the time effort and craftsmanship they put into this. So when you go to the link make sure to show your appreciation and support for one of this generations greats.

Skyzoo “Range Rover Rhythm” [VIDEO]

This video for “Range Rover Rhythm”, shot mostly out of doors and in black and white is stunning, as director Alex Ghassan captures non-cliche cinematic visuals of what looks like Brooklyn, but could easily be Queens or any East Coast town or borough. This goes perfectly with Skyzoo’s down to earth image and sometimes over your head lyrical intricacies. Producer Jahlil Beats is a name I am hearing on a lot of dope songs lately. He definitely is heating up the Hip Hop landscape with this one. Skyzoo’s ‘A Dream Deferred’ album, is out now on iTunes. Cop that!
