This is a Hip Hop Fest you don’t want to miss!

World Underground is having their Inaugural Festival this week at the Melrose Ballroom in Queens this Wednesday through Friday, August 29th – 31st, featuring Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Dave East, Azealia Banks & over 40 of the top underground emcees in the game. The festival was created by Armani Cooper, co-creator of Team Backpack.

Besides the headliners, there will also be

  • Music Conference (Guest Speakers from Lyricist Lounge and GPME agency)
  • International Emcee competition (10k$ grand prize and tour)
  • 3-Day Concert Series (featuring 40+ of your favorite EMCEES!)
  • Beat battles
  • Live hip-hop ciphers

I have to give it to them, they have great headliners, as well as actual underground artists as their title advertises. Many of these acts I have never heard of – hence “underground” – but at the same time, there are enough who I know to be legit, such as Locksmith, Ren Thomas, Mad Squablz, Chris Rivers and the Skull N Tones DJ crew, to name a few, that I expect to hear quality. They are exposing underground artists to new audiences, which is really what a fest that claims to be “underground” is supposed to do, salute to everyone involved.

You can get TICKETS to individual performances you care about, get a 1 day pass for $100 or a 3 day pass for $200. $10,000 for the Emcee Competition is a nice purse, so that should be a heated competition! More info, a detailed line up and instructions for the Emcee competition can be found on their website: worldunderground.com.

Here are some more artists and DJ’s you will see at the festival:

KOTD – Compliment Rap Battle – Pat Stay vs Rone (Hilarious!)

I remember the first KOTD  Compliment Rap Battle ever. It was Tricky P vs Deffinition. I was there at King of the Dot (KOTD) World Domination 2, in Toronto Canada, summer of 2011 and this was the most creative, innovative and HILARIOUS battle I had ever seen.

Shout out to the whole KOTD organization, one of the best leagues out there, period. They elevated the game with their attention to detail, graphics intros and legendary match ups. You see how I just complimented them? That’s how the Compliment Rap Battle works. Instead of dissing your opponent, you have to go out of your way to compliment them, better than they compliment you. Now battle champions Pat Stay and Rone return to the Compliment battle ring, at the Hopscotch Festival 2014, to secure their legacies as not only the meanest battle rappers in the game, but the NICEST as well. Literally.

Watch Pat Stay vs Rone, above, and then you can check out the first ever compliment rap battle with Tricky P vs Deffinition, below. (Catch me to the left of Organik, behind PH’s left shoulder, cracking up!).

Cortez: “Ask For Me” (MCMI WARZONE Battle Bars Remix)

Big Tom (-aka- TomBig7) put beats behind the bars from battles and makes them fit like its a real song. For this one, Cortez: “Ask For Me”, he took the best Cortez lines from MCMI WARZONE: CORTEZ vs AUTOMATIC RAY (from New Years Revolution at Radio Bushwick). He has a whole mixtape of them if you like this one, called “Beats Behind the Battles Mixtape” which you can DOWNLOAD FREE. The chorus he made for this one is hot! Cortez should really do a song with that “Ask for me” hook.

What do y’all think? Should Ray come back with a remix of his own? Subscribe to Youtube.com/MCMIreport for more MCMI WARZONE battles. Salute my MCMI partners @PH_TeamHOMI and @LR_Blitzkrieg, we are working on the next one. and our co-hosts @therealMicHandz  and @MrMecc. Okay this is the battle you have all been waiting for! MCMI WARZONE: CORTEZ vs AUTOMATIC RAY at RADIO BUSHWICK, Brooklyn NY, January 11th! To use Automatic Ray’s own words it was “a F—in’ bloodbath!” But who’s blood was spilt? That my friend, is always the question, isn’t it? To find out, watch the video!
