MCMI Report Yasiin Bey NO Colonial Fiction

MCMI Report Yasiin Bey NO Colonial Fiction – Spotted this on OkayPlayer. Apparently, hours after the recent terrorist attacks in Paris, which are being attributed to ISIS, Yasiin Bey (previously known as Mos Def), did an interview on a radio show called  Ferrari Sheppard‘s A Country Called Earth Acce Sessions. In the interview, Yasiin commented on the Paris ISIS attacks, giving a big “F*CK Off” to ISIS, saying that they don’t represent Islam. He also directed his choice words to “to everybody trying to say ‘see, this is Islam’s fault.‘” Yasiin then goes on to explain,

“The problem is not Islam [or] organized religion. The problem is people’s lack of compassion and caring for themselves and their fellow human beings. “

In the interview, which took place while he was in Germany, Yasiin said,

“Love must and will prevail, I don’t care how corny it sounds,”

and compared the attack to the Tamir Rice shooting and other events of injustice and murder of innocent people.

Yasiin also dropped an unreleased song, NO Colonial Fiction. I don’t know if this is for a specific project, or if it is just a song he had not released before, but he probably knew it would bring attention to his comments. I am a fan, so any new material is always welcome. Let me know what you think of the track, as well as Yasiin’s comments, in the comments section below. Is he on point or off track?

Here is the full interview, from: A Country Called Earth

MCMI REPORT: Shabaam Sahdeeq – Men of Respect ft Pumpkinhead, Torae, 8thW1

Shabaam Sahdeeq

Shabaam Sahdeeq’s new album Modern Artillery drops next Tuesday, October 13th! Shabaam is laying out all the stops with this release – graphic art, videos, Limitted cassette tape edition, a future vinyl pressing in the works, heavy hitting features (Torae, Ruste juxx, PH, Reef tha Lost Cause & more), with one producer – Big Ape – keeping the whole project cohesive.

I am looking forward to the rest of the album, but for now … this joint right here? … Shabaam Sahdeeq – Men of Respect is a really dope record. Sahdeeq’s flow is fresh and invigorated, like he is a new artist just coming out (can you believe this dude was on Rawkus Records Soundbombing? Then again, so were Eminem, Mos Def and Talib Kweli and they are not slowing down either). Big Ape’s production is crazy, heads will nod, no question and then you have Torae, 8thW1 (who I am unfamiliar with, but am feeling the verse) and from beyond the grave, the Underground King, Pumpkinhead aka PH.

I think I’ve said enough. You know what to do – hit play, feel the joint and get ready for the full project, Tuesday. After you check the single, peep the promo video, complete with animation style artwork of the features on the album.

MEDINA GREEN – SAVE THE CHILDREN – The EP

MEDINA GREEN MC DcQ, also known as “Ilias Bey”, began his music career at 17, in a group I first saw rocking’ at the legendary Lyricist Lounge in the 90’s, as the Urban Thermo Dynamics or UTD’s for short. Singles like “My Kung Fu” and “Manifest Destiny”, dropped on Payday Records  quickly garnered underground respect. This was also the first time people heard the lyrics and vocals of fellow group member Mos Def (yes, he was always singing, even back then). UTD’s had a good run, Mos came out with his solo work and shortly after DcQ emerged with a new group, a larger collective called Medina Green. They had some great joints, most notably the classic “Crosstown Beef”.

After years of touring the world as an independent artist, opening for “De La Soul”, “BlackStar”, “Talib Kweli”, and “Mos Def” and on the public speaking circuit under his pseudonym “Illias”, DcQ is back with a new project which not only is dope beats and rhymes but promotes a positive social message, SAVE THE CHILDREN – The EP.

dcq1While the title track and one other are solo DcQ joints, the EP features other members of Medina Green (including Yaslin Bey -pka- Mos Def) and some special guests, like SADAT X and JOELL ORTIZ. The beats on this project are rough, rugged and raw, produced by Shawneci Icecold and Ayatollah, my favorites being the title track, “Stop The Madness” and the closer “Party Done”. The whole project is extremely well put together and amazingly is a FREE DOWNLOAD available here.

They Die By Dawn – The Bullits ft Yasiin Bey, Jay Electronica & Lucy Liu [Video]

They Die By Dawn – The Bullits ft Yaslin Bey, Jay Electronica & Lucy Liu

The Bullits is singer/songwriter/producer/filmmaker Jeymes Samuel, who produced and directed this video featuring the acting of Lucy Liu and many other notables, such as Giancarlo Esposito, Michael Kenneth Williams, Rosario Dawson, Erykah Badu, Isaiah Washington and Bokeem Woodbine, to name a few, and the lyrics of Yaslin Bey (formerly Mos Def) and Jay Electronica. The video is incredible, really shot as a mini-movie, in the Western genre.
