MCMI Report: UG (Cella Dwellas) “Letter to My Boy PH” [PH Memorial Concert]

UG (Cella Dwellas) “Letter to My Boy PH”

UG of Cella Dwellas performs a heartfelt “Letter to my boy PH” at the PH Memorial Tribute Concert at Santos Party House in Manhattan, August 5th, 2015. First UG, which stands for “UndaGround”, also known as the producer P90 Ug, spoke from the heart to our risen Champion PH.

Real quick, five seconds … Letter to my
boy PH.

Dear PH,

I know people would never see us together as much, but I just want you to be proud of your Team Homi, in takin’ care of your family, good. We all love you in here. We all represent for you, nahmsayin’?

So, I just you to know I love you and I’m about to turn up for you, nahmsayin’? Word up! Let’s do it! Let’s do it, Let’s go to the next one. I’m ready now. I’m ready…

UG then proceeded to get the audience to “Wile out! …” and spit a verse which sounded like it might be off his upcoming album “Portals“, which he has been working on, quiet as kept, and which should be out soon.

On another note, if you are looking for heat, beatwise or a feature, holler at UG aka P90. In fact, go friend him on Facebook and you can hear a sampling of some of his beats, as he posts beat videos all the time. That’s how I can to snatch one of his beats up recently, for a song I am working on. He has fire. Go see for yourself.

MCMI Report: Jason Spirit – You Make Me Shine (Video) Directed by Jarrett Robertson

Jason Spirit - You Make Me Shine

MCMI Report: Jason Spirit – You Make Me Shine – debut single and video

Although I usually write about Hip Hop music, like most Hip Hop heads its not the only type of music I listen to. As a musician myself, who grew up on Folk, Classical, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Blues and Classic Rock, I have very eclectic musical tastes. As a producer and songwriter, I know a great song, regardless of genre. As a flautist (oh, you didn’t know? … check me on this track Freedom, with Chordz Cordero), I also can appreciate a good melody. Well Jason Spirit, a singer / songwriter of incredible talent and passion, embodies all of the above.

MCMI Report: Jason Spirit - You Make Me ShineI guess I decided to write about Jason Spirit, because of his unique style, the likes of which you don’t come across often. His songs are incredibly soulful, yet universal. The Brooklyn native’s lyrics are honest and real. And he has the guts to break out a flute solo in the middle of what could potentially be a pop record! There are very few popular singers who also play an instrument and take extended solo breaks on the middle of a song. In a performance? Sure. But on the record? We used to hear it all the time. That’s something we are missing these days and its a sound for sore ears.MCMI Report: Jason Spirit - You Make Me Shine

As is his flute. His playing falls somewhere between Ian Anderson and Hubert Laws. His music has a Jamiroqui meets The Police feel to it, soul-stirring and danceable at the same time. His singing – all Jason. Although he has done some writing, producing and playing for various bands and on some dance records in the past, this is his solo debut. It’s also his first music video, directed by Jarrett Robinson (RhythmandBleu), who really brings out Jason’s cool spirit (pun intended), with breathtaking outdoor visuals.

You can hear this song plus three others he is previewing, on his website jasonspiritmusic.com and catch him live at the world famous Blue Note jazz club in NYC, on January 29th, at 12-midnight. Advance tickets only $10, more the day of the show.

MCMI REPORT: CHRIS RIVERS & CORY GUNZ “BARZ FOR ALL” (FREESTYLE)

CHRIS RIVERS & CORY GUNZ "BARZ FOR ALL" (ALL FOR ONE FREESTYLE)

Chris Rivers and Cory Gunz get lyrical over Brand Nubian’s ‘All For One’. Both of their pops were two of the best lyricist out of the BX (Big Pun and Peter Gunz) and their seeds have born fruit, paying their dues on their way to holding the torch. I like hearing both of them do their thing, because they were brought up on real Hip Hop and are not on the BS that some newcomers are on. I don’t know what happened to Cory’s album. I thought Wayne was going to put out his material on Young Money? Whatever the problem is, business-wise, it is clearly not lyrics. These boys got it.
