MCMI REPORT

Bad Seed and Nottz are back with a collaborative album called No Way In Hell and the first single Sunday Morning ft DJ Total Eclipse has just hit the airwaves.

Bad Seed first teamed up with Nottz  to produce two Hip Hop classics in 1999 “For the Kids” and “Uhhnnh”, both of which did incredible sales for indie releases, the latter making it to Funk Flex 60 Minutes of Funk Vol IV: The Mixtape. After signing to a major (Warner) that then shelved their entire Hip Hop roster, Seed was sour to the industry for awhile, but released several notable independent albums over the years, remaining so-called “underground“, although some records such as Yankee Fitted featuring Mims and Talib Kweli off the album Intelligently Ignant, bubbled up slightly into the mainstream consciousness.

In 2016, Seed dropped Coreyography, which was set to be his last album, his farewell tour. After trying some acting, writing and directing, I think Seed was done with rap, perhaps feeling there was no way in hell he was going to drop another album. But the lead single “Belt Off” reunited Corey with Nottz and the results were amazing (video). The rekindling of their professional relationship led to this new producer/MC project No Way in Hell by SEED X NOTTZ.

For those unfamiliar with the Grammy Award winning producer’s work, Nottz has produced tracks for Busta Rhymes, the Notorious B.I.G, Fat Joe, Rah Digga, M.O.P, Exhibit, Snoop Dogg, Scarface, 50 Cent Method Man, Ghostface, Drake and Ne-yo just to name a few. He also works with more independent artists such as Krumbsnatcha, Apathy, Evidence and Sean Price. For his full discography, go here.

The first single off the project is “Sunday Morning” available now on Bandcamp. The Bad Seed hasn’t lost a step and Nottz beats are always bangin’ so we know this album is going to be tough!!

Let us know what you think of the track and the video and let us know, are you as amped as we are to hear this Seed X Nottz project? Also, what is your favorite Bad Seed or Nottz record? See you in the comments. Enjoy.

MCMI Report: BILLY DANZE - 6 o'clock Briefing
As his term comes to an end some people criticize President Obama for continuing some of the oppressive policies of the previous presidents, for deporting the most amount of immigrants and for not “doing enough” about issues affecting black people in America and a slew of other things. Well, Billy Danze of M.O.P decided to talk about issues going on in the country, the best way he knows how. With a beat and a microphone, he delivers our PRESIDENT his “6 o’clock Briefing” for this single on DCM
(Deep Concepts Media).

SCENARIO: Busta Rhymes, L.O.N.S & ATCQ @ Brooklyn Hip Hop Fest

It almost didn’t happen. Due to a late start, Busta Rhymes set at the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival #8 was being rushed. Buss kept doing intros and snippets of songs, teasing us and then saying “I got a lot of songs and only a little bit of time…”. He brought up Smif N Wesson. He brought up Buckshot. He brought out Slick Rick, who rocked the mic and a whole lot of gold jewelry. Reek Da Villain got his shine. Busta even did “Ante Up” with Lil Fame of M.O.P. It was past 8pm and that was when the event was supposed to end. But wait … where’s L.O.N.S?? I mean, Busta had tweeted pics of him, Charlie Brown and Dinco D chillin’ in the studio just days before the concert. That definitely was a sign that maybe something was gonna happen.

A familiar story in Hip Hop (or concerts in general). The show gets delayed, goes late, the artists and fans want more time and the venue wants to shut it down. I have seen this play out several different ways, none of them pleasant. Busta called for help from event founder, Brooklyn Bodega’s Wes Jackson, asking him to please handle that. And then …

“Where’s my two brothers at? … Whoa whoa whoa – WHERE’s my two brothers at? … My whole shit started with these two dudes right here.”

Leaders of the New School proceeded to tear down the stage with “Case of the P.T.A”, their classic first hit single, while a soundman can be heard muttering “3 minutes” in the background. After that performance 3 minutes is up, but history will not be denied. The beat to SCENARIO comes on, L.O.N.S start jumping and 2,000 people in Pier 3 jump up and down frantically, in crazed jubilation and proceed to recite every lyric along with their Leaders. Soundman did NOT want to shut it down right about now. And he didn’t even know what was about to happen… Phife & Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest hit the stage to create the first full performance of Scenario with all members on the song in 19 years! I’ll let the video tell you the rest …
