PH Memorial Friends & Family

On June 9, 2015 the world lost a valued member of the Hip Hop community, Robert Alan Diaz (September 17, 1975 – June 9, 2015), known by his stage name Pumpkinhead aka PH. We also lost a beloved friend, brother, husband, son and father.

PH in Cap

PH was known as the Underground King in the Hip Hop music biz and on the battle rap scene. He was a Hip Hop music purist, dedicating his life to creating, celebrating and preserving the art form. He was known to be extremely humble, supportive of dozens of movements, wanting to help anyone who he felt was also doing music that was good for the culture. In honor of his legacy we look to unite fans, friends and others to pay their respects to PH.

The theme is white clothing (*optional, of course), since we are CELEBRATING his LIFE and MUSIC, not mourning, with a splash of Orange for PH’s style.

PH BattlingPH grew up in Park Slope, one block from this venue, so the location has a special significance for family and friends. PH was such a loved figure in the community and around the world that his family was flooded with thousands of requests to come to the funeral. Unable to accommodate everyone they decided to keep the services small and relatively private. Regrettably, many people felt left out and needed a place to pay respects to PH.

The Family has love for all and PH’s mom, wife, kids, and other relatives will be in attendance to accept condolences, hugs and fond memories of your times with Robert. All  are welcome in love, respect & solidarity for our brother, MC, Event Promoter, friend & family man, the Underground King.

PH County of Kings Shirt

This memorial event is for the community to come together, connect with friends, speak about PH’s impact on music and on our lives, watch footage of PH’s videos and his Last Interview, and raise money for the memorial fund. Food was donated by Fat Buddha Bar (212 Avenue A, nyc), which was one of PH’s favorite hang outs.

ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO PH’S FAMILY. Thank you for your continued support.

MOBB DEEP: THE INFAMOUS – 20 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

MOBBDEEPshowFor those who don’t know, this Thursday SUMMERSTAGE and LYRICIST LOUNGE have teamed up to bring you MOBB DEEP “The Infamous Album 20 Year Anniversary” show, in Queensbridge Park, from 7pm – 9pm. The show is all ages (I don’t know how they pull that one off, but God bless em) and is absolutely FREE!

The Infamous, which was the Mobb’s second studio album, featured  Nas, Wu-Tang Clan members Raekwon and Ghostface Killah, A Tribe Called Quest member Q-Tip, and close Mobb Deep affiliate Big Noyd. The album contained several classics, most notably “Shook Ones Pt. II” and “Survival of the Fittest” which propelled Prodigy and Havoc’s careers forward as a group and also Havoc as producer. Before then he had never produced a record, but decided to both because they didn’t like some of the beats they got from outside producers and also because producers they did like were charging so much for a beat. One thing many are not aware of is Q-Tip mixed several songs and did a couple of beats on the album as well, credited as “the Abstract”. He was a huge fan of the group and was in a lot of their sessions with them as they recorded the album.

Infamous Cover

Along with DJ’s Hot Day and Ski Beatz, the duo from Queens is sure to thrill audiences with their current music and classics from “The Infamous” and the rest of their healthy catalogue. You will probably see a few surprise special guests light up the stage as well. You can get your copy of “The Infamous” 20 Year Anniversary – Deluxe version, with 17 new songs plus 14 remixed classics here.

COUNTY OF KINGS (PH ft. LR Blitzkrieg) at RAKIM Concert in Red Hook Park

Check out this performance by PH ft. LR Blitzkrieg at Red Hook Park, this past summer. The God RAKIM was headliner of the free outdoor performance, hosted by the Lyricist Lounge in conjunction with Summer Stage. The song in the video is County of Kings – PH ft. LR Blitzkrieg, Skyzoo, Sha Stimuli & Ruste Juxx, off of PH’s album KNOW THE LEDGE (MCMI Records), performed over Jay Z’s “Where I’m From” instrumental.

Shout out to Poison Pen who was hosting and DJ DP ONE on the wheels. I haven’t seen a lot of this show on youtube, so I am going to upload some more footage of the event soon. For more great videos, SUBSCRIBE to MCMI REPORT on YouTube.

Cella Dwellas – Be True “Video”

I first heard Cella Dwella‘s “Be True” on Bodega Cold Cutz Radio so I went digging online for it (shouts to Joe Bodega). UG and The Tallman kill this beat it’s the same energy as past classic Cella Dwella songs just a bit more fit for the times. I hope they come with more heat like this followed by an album.
