Freestyle Rap Saved My Life – Kosha Dillz

Kosha Dillz shares his adventures with TEDxKazimierz about how Freestyle Rap has transformed his life from where he was with drug addiction and stints in prison to a performance artist. Stories from Matisyahu to RZA to the BET Awards to making $50,000 outside the Grammy’s while rapping on the street … It is all in this miraculous TEDX TALK.

According to the self-proclaimed “#1 Rapper in Korea Town”

Believe it or not … a life plagued with drugs , addictions, anxiety, depression, and email happiness led to a career in rap that started from me freestyling. People say it is my most powerful asset in my shows, and it really catapulted me to be quite honest. Even when I live my life before I speak to a cashier at Ralph’s or see a pretty girl on the beach, I always have to come up with something quick to say, and that is a “FREESTYLE.”

A 34 year old New Jersey artist born to Israeli parents, Rami Even-Esh has landed himself in rap battles, jail cells, rehabs, video games, Super Bowl commercials and world tours for millions of people. He came up with the name Kosha Dillz to keep his Jewishness alive when he felt his life had gone astray. (You will hear more about it in the TedX Talk).

Freestyle Rap Saved My Life - Kosha Dillz

In the last few years Kosha has become one of the most sought out “jewish artists” in pop culture alongside Matisyahu and Drake. Dillz has penned numerous articles for Billboard about experiences with anti-semitism, addiction and the Holocaust. rhymes in English, Hebrew and Spanish and understands the power of transformation through personal experience. After a trip to Kraków and Warsaw with his mother and great aunt to walk through the concentration camp, Kosha recorded a song about Kraków for his upcoming album “What I do all day and pickle” and filmed this music video.

The talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format, but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

MCMI REPORT: The Return of MCMI RADIO!

MCMI RADIO: BAD SEED talks Thin Black Line & Police Brutality

Episode 1 – pt 1
MCMI RADIO: Real Hip Hop. Real Talk. Corey “BAD SEED” Pierson

For those who never knew about MCMI RADIO, it was launched Friday June 8th 2012, as part of the 6th Man Radio station (shout outs to Bad Seed), hosted on BlogTalkRadio. our first episode was MCMI RADIO: Real Hip Hop. Real Talk. Ep 1 “LYRICISTS LOUNGE” and continued for 50 straight episodes, until our final broadcast “MCMI RADIO: Ep 50 – Rock Steady Crew & End of the Weak”, on Friday, July 26th, 2013. The show was primarily hosted by myself (GMS) and my partner in MCMI, The Plague, Hydra and basically my brother from another mother, LR Blitzkrieg.

MCMI REPORT: The Return of MCMI RADIO!

Over the year, we featured co-hosts and special guests including PackFM, MrMecc, Poison Pen, PH (#ripPH), Wordsworth, D-Stroy, Tonedeff, Sha Stimuli, Masta Ace, Mazzi, Vicky Green, Substantial, Bad Seed, Billy Screem (TeamHOMI), Organik (KOTD), Sara Kana, Homeboy Sandman, Vice Verses (EOW), Kosha Dillz, Audible Doctor (BrownBagAllstars), Chordz Cordero, yU, Steph the Saphic Songstress, The MarXman, Angel “Sweetness” Garcia (Pro Boxer) and Novell “Black Taoist” Bell (ManUpStandUp / BET’s “IRON RING”), I Am Many, Jess James Figeroa, Swave Sevah (TeamHOMI), Bryan from theBeeShine, Keith “Wild Child” Middleton, Icon the Mic King, and Kevin “DJ Organic” Fitzgerald (Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme).

MCMI REPORT: The Return of MCMI RADIO!

After a year of doing the talk show live almost every week, LR Blitzkrieg and myself just couldn’t keep it up. The show took a lot of work, preparing, setting up interviews, getting crates ready. We needed to dedicate more of our time to the record label and to other aspects of MCMI, so we stopped doing the show.

Well, almost three years later – WE ARE BACK, BABY! This time the show will not be live and will not be weekly. It is now hosted on the MCMI YouTube Channel (Subscribe), which has MUCH better sound quality than BlogTalkRadio and will drop from time to time, whenever we have a good interview or something to talk about.

MCMI REPORT: The Return of MCMI RADIO!

All of the previous BlogTalkRadio shows are archived and can be found on MCMIreport.com/radio-archives. That will be considered “Season 1”. The new shows on Youtube are “Season 2”. Some will be mostly audio, with photos and video clips inserted throughout. Others will be full video format. New music and videos will occasionally be featured between segments of talk.

The new shows will be alternately hosted by MCMI’s GMS, LR Blitzkrieg, Keith WildChild Middleton, MrMecc and other artists affiliated with MCMIreport.com and MCMI Records. So, subscribe, listen, like, comment, share and stay tuned!!!

KOSHA DILLZ: Tupac Gone Fishing + Awkward In A Good Way [Video + Album]

You might have to watch this video a few times to understand what’s going on, with guest appearance by ‘Tupac’ (no holo’!), but Tupac Gone Fishing is just Kosha being Kosha.  This is off the brand new album “Awkward In A Good Way”. One thing I know about Kosha Dillz, from the man himself, is that he is always been “so comfortable being uncomfortable.” That’s why the album’s title is so appropriate.

The Israeli-American, obviously (from the name) Jewish rapper, has always done his own thing, oblivious to fads and trends. He has always kept it true to himself, whether in a cipher in the park, at the B.E.T Cypher or on tour with the RZA and U-God of the Wu-Tang Clan. At times he can be humorous and playful, at others dead serious, but he always tells stories of his own life, his culture, the triumphs and struggles of ‘everyman’.

“The title was really pushed on me by Murs,” Kosha explains, “He told me that people will take me seriously once I realize that I’m never going to fit in, and that’s ok.” This album is actually released through Murs’ own label, Murs 316.

kosha dillz awkwardIf you have heard any of his music, seen his zany DIY videos, or caught him performing live, possibly rhyming in English, Spanish and Hebrew at the same time, you know that Dillz has created his own lane. As much at home in New Jersey, California or France and as comfortable freestyling with A$AP Rcoky, C-Rayz Walz or Hasidic rapper Matisyahu, Kosha Dillz is always certain to do one thing: entertain.

“Awkward In A Good Way” is produced entirely by one producer, Belief. According to Kosha, “Creatively, Belief evokes a certain emotion in his production that embraces my awkwardness, in a way that no other producer has really captured.”

The beat to Tupac Gone Fishing is definitely knocking’. To preview the rest of the album, you can listen to a free stream on Billboard. Then head on over to iTunes.

Kosha Dillz: Moses Wasteland [Official Video]

Here is the first music video off The Jet Lag EP, directed by Robbie Barclay, featuring samples from LA artist Chelsea Wolfe and produced by Nate G. For those of you tired of hearing the same old version of guns, drugs, pimpin’, tough talk, etc, Kosha Dillz brings you his brand of Hip Hop from a young urban Jewish perspective. His new project up on DJ Booth is a lot of indie mixes … 6 songs of bands you might wanna look up after hearing his takes on them.

It brings me back to my hardcore rap days of cursing all the time..it felt good! …

Kosha told us in a recent conversation, but it’s not really that much cursing, actually. Kosha is not a murda-death-kill type of MC. He has a great sense of humor and represents daily life triumphs and struggles that anyone can relate to.
