Keith “WildChild” Middleton of ‘Stomp’ Takes Center Stage

Keith Middleton

Okay so you’ve probably heard of STOMP, the International stage show where they act crazy onstage and bang out beats on just about EVERYTHING except a musical instrument (brooms, garbage cans, tubes and buckets are some of their favorites). But you might be wondering why MCMIreport.com is posting an article about one of the longest running cast members of the show, Keith “WildChild” Middleton. Well the answer is simple. This is the same WildChild who is one third of the group HYDRA, co-founder of the underground Hip Hop crew The PLAGUE!

Keith Jump Stomp

WildChild performing in STOMP

He is also a talented musician, composer, super producer (check the tracks “Twelve” and “Love Is …“, for examples) and my very own “brother from another mother.” (I am actually the friend he is talking about in the piece, who did magic shows for money at age 12 and then ran to the studio to make rap demos.) So, when NewYork.com put up this awesome interview, as one of their “COOL JOBS Q & A” stories, I had to share it with y’all.

GrandMixer DXT & Baby T – Hip Hop Pioneers (TheBeeShine Interview)

GrandMixer DXT is arguably the first DJ turntablist. He was mentored by Kool Herc and is featured on Herbie Hancock’s groundbreaking single “Rockit”. He and Baby T, one of the very first female MCees, are two Hip Hop pioneers who have a lot of history to  share, telling stories about the first parties and Hip Hop performances in the 1970’s & 1980’s.

TheBeeShine.com interviewed both of them together, providing a fascinating glimpse into the adventures of another time, when baby Hip Hop was in its infancy stage. In those days, it was not about a check. It was about rocking the party, being creative and having fun. Of course, there was also a lot of violence that cast a dark shadow over the culture.

SUBSTANTIAL on “Golden Lady” & Jill Scott tribute album (Exclusive Interview)

Baltimore artist SUBSTANTIAL prepares to release a Jill Scott tribute project, entitled “Jackin’ Jill”, built by “Jackin” music from various Jill Scott releases. I call him an artist, not just an MC, because besides working well with words, ‘Substizzle‘ also drew the sketch which is the cover art. Intrigued by this new project based entirely on the work of Jill Scott, I had to get at my Plague brother and ask him a few questions.

GMS: How did the idea of a Jill Scott Tribute album come about?

SUBSTANTIAL: Back in 2011 when I had the cancer scare, I decided to work on a tribute album to Jill Scott. I figure, celebrate people while they are still here, you know? Jill Scott has always been one of my favorite artists. It’s been about two years since I had the preventative surgery and I’m ready to put out the music, as a free download of course.

GMS: What is the song “Golden Lady” about?

SUBSTANTIAL: It basically tells the story of how I was first introduced to Jill Scott’s music, and how it influenced me over the years.
