What more can be said about this legendary MC, friend, father and true artist, who did a lot for Hip Hop, fellow artists and the battle rap game that hasn’t been said already? The friends and family of PH aka PUMPKINHEAD have dedicated ourselves to keeping his legacy alive, musically and in support of his seeds. The events are packed with great music from incredible artists, but are also a great time to reconnect with fam, remember PH and toast to those who are gone but not forgotten, as many good brothers and sisters have transcended in recent years.

PH MEMORIAL SHOW: Immortal Technique, Apathy, Dwellas, Nems, DNA, Charlie Clips

Salute to EVERYBODY on the bill (and those not on the bill), because everyone is donating their time whether promoting, working the event or performing onstage. Previous memorial shows featured a gazillion artists, who were all PH’s friends and musical collaborators, but with so many on the stage each artist got very little shine in the few minutes allotted. This year we scaled it back a bit, so that the line up will not be the same every show and the artists have more time to pay homage with their musical renditions.

Shouts to Doc Ahk who did much of the legwork, booking and promotions, the flyer itself and is one of the best event promoters and stage managers in New York. The show is going to be incredible – of course. IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE will inspire, motivate and incite. APATHY joining us is a new treat. The CELLA DWELLAS are definitely a hometown favorite. While notorious for their battle rap careers, this is an awesome opportunity to hear artists like NEMS, DNA, CHARLIE CLIPS and Team HOMI flex their material, a countermeasure to the mumble rap music movement (YOU WILL HEAR ACTUAL WORDS! LOL) and represents 100% REAL HIP HOP.

These will be available at the event – while supplies last!!

As for my crew, The PLAGUE? … hell yeah, we will do our thing! Not about to let anybody upstage us, LOL. The BAD SEED is rocking joints from his new project SEED x NOTTZ, produced by NOTTZ obviously and that is all I need to know. Seed with the verses, Nottz with the beats. Let’s go!

Me (GMS), Wild Child, LR Blitzkrieg, PackFM, MrMecc and Tonedeff, plus Poison Pen (who reps Team Homi, Stronghold and The Plague) and DJ DP ONE are coming with some classics, but also some brand new material, which has never been performed before. All in honor of our fallen champion, the Underground King, PH aka PUMPKINHEAD!

Other DJ’s ECLIPSE, TOSHI & JOE BODEGA will keep the party rockin’ before, after and in between sets and the whole night will be hosted by EOW (End of the Weak) so this night is going to be extra special!

Constant Flow – ASCENSION (Album)

Constant Flow – “Dog Tags” ft Swave Sevah & Akir, produced by Southpaw.

Constant Flow dropped his album ASCENSION in September, through Viper Records. Some of you may know the Jersey City native by his abbreviated name “CF” and you may have caught him opening for the likes of Nas and Mobb Deep, or on tour with Immortal Technique. Myself, I have seen him spit plenty of times at SOB’s, at the End of the Weak open mic series at PYRAMID and in other new talent showcases in NY, so I have been waiting for a debut album from this lyrical powerhouse.

CF told The Village Voice:

“The album’s filled with interesting twist and turns from the title track which introduces myself to the people to “Dog Tags” showcasing the more militant CF. Then there’s “Moment of Peace” featuring Immortal Tech which deals with the breaking of stereotypes and “Celebrate Life” which deals with the idea of finding life in death.”

The album features guest appearances by Immortal Technique, Akir, Swave Sevah, Wyseme, Dontique, Kelly Finnegan (of Monophonics), P.J. Pacifico and Melanie Fontana. You can download it or stream it from the sources below.

SWAVE SEVAH: Radio Interview and Album Release Party

swave sevah

Swave Sevah has made a name for himself battling MC’s Dizaster, Head Ice, Shotgun Shug to name a few (search “Swave Sevah vs” on youtube) and touring with J-Live, Poison Pen and Immortal Technique. This past Friday on MCMI RADIO, we got an exclusive preview of some Swave Sevah songs off his album “Son of a One Armed Man”, set to drop in 3 days on Creative Juices Music. Everything on the album, even the title “Son of a One Armed Man”, is inspired by real life (Swave’s dad actually had one arm since a childhood accident and yet overcame that, to become a champion martial artist) and features veteran spitters Killer Mike, Sean Price, Poison Pen, Marv Won, Ike P, Chordz Cordero and others.

Besides making music and winning MC battles, the Harlem native is known to have a mean knuckle game. The conversation heated up as we talked about the right to “shoot the fair one”, Washington State’s “Mutual Fight Agreement” law and what happened to someone who posted a disrespectful sexual reference under a picture of Swave’s daughter on Facebook. I know, Facebook beef is corny, but you wont believe what this guy had the nerve to say about his daughter. This one might be the exception to the rule.

To find out how the story ended, and hear exclusive tracks before the album drops, listen to MCMI RADIO: Real Hip Hop. Real Talk.

Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap (Trailer)

tech n ice

Back in the days when i was a teenager… myself and GMS (MCMI co-owners) met Kevin Fitzgerald aka DJ Organic in central park at a summer stage concert. He was traveling around filming what would later become the critically acclaimed Documentary “Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme” We introduced him to the MC’s we knew, took him to the events we threw and frequented, helped plug him in to the new york Hip Hop scene and even made cameos along with PackFM, Mr.Mecc, Substantial & PH – our fellow crew members from “The Plague” Flash Forward over a decade and a new documentary with the same great feel, love (and many of the same artist) directed by Ice-T is about to hit the big screen….

Synopsis:
Ice-T takes us on an intimate journey into the heart and soul of hip-hop with the legends of rap music. This performance documentary goes beyond the stardom and the bling to explore what goes on inside the minds, and erupts from the lips, of the grandmasters of rap. Recognized as the godfather of Gangsta rap, Ice-T is granted unparalleled access to the personal lives of the masters of this artform that he credits for saving his life. Interspersed with the performers’ insightful, touching, and often funny revelations are classic raps, freestyle rhymes, and never before heard a cappellas straight from the mouths of the creators. What emerges is a better understanding of, and a tribute to, an original American art form that brought poetry to a new generation.
