Substantial – “Neighborhood Watch (The Other Guys Remix)” ft. Acem of Gods’Illa is produced AND directed by The Other Guys, also known as Joe and Isaiah. (This same team also did a remix of ‘Home Is Where The Art Is’).
The black and white video shows Substantial and Acem looking through the blinds on their window, talking about all the neighborhood ills you have to watch out for, from the old lady who hangs out of her window all day being in everyone’s business, to religious zealots and Jehovah’s witnesses, misguided youth turned thieves and drug dealers and even gentrification.

Late this summer, Substantial and Mello Music Group released Home Is Where The Art Is, an uncompromisingly raw and powerful collection of positive, forward-thinking hip-hop that Oddisee executive produced. On August 23, 2012, filmmaker, Simon Kim followed Substantial as he prepared to introduce his 3rd solo album at a live show unlike any other. The event took place at LIV Nightclub in Washington, DC and featured performances & DJ sets by some of the DMV’s best Hip Hop acts, such as Oddisee, yU, Uptown XO, Gods’Illa, Lyriciss, Roddy Rod & others! Hosted by Grap Luva (cousin to the late great Heavy D) the event included live graffiti art by Rei21 and showcased his work along with pieces by Demont Peekaso. Throw in a Beatdown Showcase with J $crilla, Kaimbr, & Grussle plus DJ sets by DJ RBI, Roddy Rod & DJ Jav and what you have is one unforgettable night.

Peace World.  So I’ve been waiting anxiously for this to drop since Ace of Gods’Illa let me know last week that this would be the next leak from the upcoming project The CPR Blendtape.  Everybody, produced by Joe.D, also features myself, and fellow DMV artist, Kingpen Slim.  To sum up how I felt when Ace first let me hear the track and me to jump on the song I’ll simply quote a segment of his verse…
“…I figure I’d get in it, get comfortable, kick my feet up/So I’m up in the studi’ with my feet up on the speaker/Got the gasface like “Joe.D turn the beat up/And open up the window ’cause we got  another heater!”
