MCMI Report: GMS on Fresh Juice Radio - KVRU 105.7FM Seatle WA

Forgot to mention I appeared as a special guest on the Fresh Juice radio show in Seattle Washington a few weeks ago, Episode #327. The show is heard on KVRU 105.7fm but is also archived for playback on demand on MixCloud.com/freshjuicepodcast.

Rainier Valley Radio/KVRU is a listener-sponsored public radio station whose mission is

“to inform, educate and entertain through locally created and community-supported programming. KVRU’s programming priorities are based on our mission and vision, reflecting principles of public interest and cultural diversity.”

The show is hosted by D-Money, Jazzy Red & Sage Prince. The Episode features new commercial and underground Hip Hop and R&B, including new music from Common, Yelawolf, the Weekend and of course the new singles from PH and Chordz Cordero, Fly Away and 3rd Stone Blues.

The hosts discussed the Presidential debate and also talked with me (GMS) about the new MCMI releases plus video from the late great PH aka Pumpkinhead and Chordz Cordero. Of course I played their game show “What??” where they ask you five questions and you have to answer off the top with no pauses to think. Even though they said I did great I didn’t get any prizes! What’s up with that? Lol. Be sure to listen! Some of my answers might surprise you.

You can Download the show at https://www.mediafire.com/?xm8rq45w5jltc4p. If you want to be their next phone interview, contact: dbelles@live.com for music and inquiries and jazzyreddtheplug@gmail.com for Seattle area concert announcements.

Meanwhile back at MCMI we are setting up to relaunch our own MCMI RADIO, this time with a video format, coming soon, so stay tuned. You can catch up on the past episodes of MCMI RADIO when we were on BlogTalkRadio in association with 6thManRadio a couple years ago, here. Subscribe to our Youtube Channel to catch the new season, plus other music and interviews we put up from time to time.

And follow my channel on MixCloud if you don’t already, to hear my DJ mixes.

U.G. (of Cella Dwellas) – The Mystic (1st Leak off Solo LP, Portals) (VIDEO)

EDIT: The video just dropped! Check it out! – @GMS_MCMI

U.G. (of Cella Dwellas) – The Mystic (1st Leak off Solo LP, Portals)

U.G. - The Mystic (1st Leak off Solo LP, Portals)

From U.G. (of Cella Dwellas fame), comes the first leak off the long awaited Portals. “The Mystic” comes with an eerie, but head-nodding beat from IDE. The flow is classic UG. Tales of magic, planet draining powers, thrones, and fractured bones from blows thrown, will all please longtime fans, with the powerful voice and sick delivery of a veteran – simply put, UG’s ill. Still! And like he says in the hook “sounds like nothin’ else you’ve ever heard”.

The Brooklyn spitter, no stranger to underground cyphers and hostile competition, pulls no punches and attacks with the aggression of a battle MC.

“Listen/ I bang my chest like a bongo/ Congo/ Push rocks like Rondo/ Arms throw/ Combos/ F*ck up your whole ensemble.”

U.G. - The Mystic (1st Leak off Solo LP, Portals)

After several delays, Portals, which includes guest features from the likes of Celph Titled, Mista Sinista, Life Long, Necro and more, is here, ready for Pre-order on iTunes. You get “The Mystic” immediately upon pre-order. The full album hits all major digital retailers and streaming outlets on October 21, via Creative Juices Music.

MCMI Report: Watch Substantial Perform in the 2017 Ford Fusion (Commercial)

MCMI Report: This just in! Mid Atlantic Ford Dealers got MCMI affiliated rapper Substantial into one of their new vehicles and he made magic! Okay, this is taking “spittin’ in the whip” to the next level. Et first I was like “Oh cool. The homie Substantial (member of The Plague, Fanomm, Bop Alloy & Ef@mm) did a FORD commercial. But when I watch it, it’s more like Ford did a Substantial commercial! It’s all about him, growin’ up in DC and Baltimore, his daughter and his career as an artist. And he does spit a verse, all while driving around in a Ford Fusion.

MCMI Report: Watch Substantial Perform in the 2017 Ford Fusion

Earlier this summer, Substantial’s song The Sub Way was chosen by UBER for their #UberSummerSeries campaignThey used the beat and hook to promote the second installment of the Uber Summer Concert Series, presented by Perrier and Hotel Indigo, but the video was of a rooftop concert featuring the artist Yuna (big up to her).

Now FORD is using The Sub Way in their commercial. The commercial and the full song are featured prominently on FordMusic.com. I’m thinking with TWO billion dollar companies wanting to use this song, it obviously strikes a chord with them and with the public.

This is a great look for Substantial who just released the Present [EP] with producer Marcus D, available on iTunes and Bandcamp [Explicit] & [Clean]. You can stream both on Spotify.

He also has a new shirt out, called the Eclipse #BackToLyrics T-shirt from Substantial & HiPNOTT Records, featuring artwork that includes lyrics from Nujabes‘ song ‘Eclipse‘ featuring Substantial from the 2005 album ‘Modal Soul‘. The digital artwork was designed by Substantial himself. Shirts availabe here. Modal Soul album here.

With so much going on, you might want to sign up for updates on Stan’s new Fanbridge Action Page, where you can ask him questions (and he actually answers them!), connect with him on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, Soundcloud, Spotify and more.

MCMI Report: DJ Khaled – Nas Album Done ft. Nas

DJ Khaled – Nas Album Done ft. Nas

DJ Khaled dropped his ninth studio album, Major Key, yesterday, along with the single Nas Album Done ft. Nas. We’ve already been hearing “For Free” ft. Drake and “I Got The Keys” with Jay Z. What makes this latest single off the album crazy is that it is simultaneously a single off Khaled’s album and advanced marketing for Nas upcoming album. At first I was like, “Wait, is this the first single from the Nas album?” But no, it’s DJ Khaled’s record, featuring Nas, talking about his album, which is up next. Pretty slick, works for both of them.

DJ Khaled – Nas Album Done ft. Nas

It’s a cool record. Nas is dope. I don’t gotta review it, ’cause you can hear the song for yourself, above, and form your own opinion (you will anyway, no matter what I say, right?).  I will say Nas definitely shows us his flow is up to date and he is not coming with an ode to the ’90’s. He also nicely puts some people in their place, referencing all the trends he started that others often imitate.

This basically did the job, because it has me waitin’ for the actual Nas album. Only one question. If Nas’ album done, where is it? Can we get a buzz single at least? Is you finished or is you done? … LOL, I’m just playing. But I’m sayin’!

MCMI REPORT: Bad Seed Drops Final Album ‘COREYOGRAPHY’

Bad Seed Drops Final Album 'COREYOGRAPHY'

Bad Seed Drops Final Album ‘COREYOGRAPHY’

After a brief hiatus from rap to work on some films and a web series, Corey Pierson, aka Bad Seed is back with what he calls one final album. Inspired by the loss of his close friend and crew member Robert PH Diaz last year, Seed decided to toss his hat int he ring one last time. This time it’s personal. Executive produced by PH, Bad Seed brings you COREYOGRAPHY.

The first single off the album is BELT OFF, produced by NOTTZ, for which a video will be dropping shortly. If that track is any indication, fans are not going to be disappointed by this new album. With beats by NottzMarco Polo, Will Tell and other dope producers, this is definitely one of his finest works.

After listening to an advance copy of the album, I have to say one of my personal favorite tracks is Are They OK, produced by Tone Jonez, about losing so many of our favorite artists recently, from Prince to Phife, and wondering about Sade, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Chaka Khan and other musical treasures. ‘Keep Bouncin‘, produced by Dr, No, is a tight ‘down the line‘ track, with Seed, Mic Handz and Mims, spittin’ bars over a hot beat.

Bad Seed Drops Final Album 'COREYOGRAPHY'

Then there are concept songs ‘Django Unfiltered, about feeling like a slave to our 9 to 5, F*ck Cancer, about losing loved ones to the cursed disease. All in all it is a very well rounded album, giving us just the right balance meaningful content and hard beats and rhymes. At first because of the title, ‘Coreyography’, I thought it would be more autobiographical, but I see now, it actually touches on different things that Seed feels strongly about, different sides of Corey.

In the song ‘5 Minutes’, Seed airs out his feelings about the old Makin’ Records crew, which had differences and went their separate ways long ago. He references “307”, meaning 307 Clinton, which was the old Makin’ headquarters, in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Half way through the song, the beat changes and the late great PH drops some poignant lyrics, mentioning Makin’ Records and his transition to partner in MCMI Records, years later.

The album drops July 8th, on all digital outlets…iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, Amazon – all the usual suspects. The single is available on those outlets as well.

Check out the interview below.
