Erykah Badu Talks About Her Close Relationship With SupaNova Slom

This short video is extremely interesting. Who knew that Erykah Badu and SupNova Slom were close like that? Apparently, the two met at an open mic event, when Slom had just finished High School and was starting college. Badu had not blown up yet and the two became kindred spirits and consider themselves like brother and sister to this day. They became friends and the self proclaimed Hip Hop Medicine Man even helped Erykah with childbirth.

We felt like we were twins. He’s much younger than me, but we felt like we were brother and sister. – Erykah Badu

The two have a lot in common. Slom is a holistic healing practitioner and a chlorophyllian (super-vegan). Erykah has been vegetarian and a health counselor as well.

They Die By Dawn – The Bullits ft Yasiin Bey, Jay Electronica & Lucy Liu [Video]

They Die By Dawn – The Bullits ft Yaslin Bey, Jay Electronica & Lucy Liu

The Bullits is singer/songwriter/producer/filmmaker Jeymes Samuel, who produced and directed this video featuring the acting of Lucy Liu and many other notables, such as Giancarlo Esposito, Michael Kenneth Williams, Rosario Dawson, Erykah Badu, Isaiah Washington and Bokeem Woodbine, to name a few, and the lyrics of Yaslin Bey (formerly Mos Def) and Jay Electronica. The video is incredible, really shot as a mini-movie, in the Western genre.

Common Interview: Power 105’s Breakfast Club

Common The Dreamer, The Believer

Warning! This interview is mad candid (definitely “Rated R”). Common tells some stories from his memoir “One Day It Will All Make Sense“, like one about his father kidnapping him and his mom at gun point when his mother wouldn’t agree to go with him to a basketball tryout. Or about how he was fingerin’ girls and trying oral sex before losing his actual virginity. Or as Common puts it, “real things that we go through, man … I’m just adventurous”.

But Common also talks about his early music makin’ days, how he got his name “Sense”, from the slang term for weed, working with producer No I.D. and his upcoming collab album with Nas, Nas Dot Com (or Nas.Com, I’ve seen it written both ways). The behind the scenes of the whole Ice Cube feud and other juicy tidbits of information are in the book as well. Sounds like a must read.

But my favorite question they asked Common was

“Is it hard to still love H.E.R? Cause you do all the Hollywood movies, and those checks are better. Is it hard to still have a love for H.E.R.?”

Listen to the interview for his answer.

Pick up Common’s 9th LP (!), The Dreamer, The Believer, in stores now.

Gods’illa + Sean Price “Saviours & Punishers” (Video)

We’ve been tellin’ y’all about this Hip Hop group from the DMV area for awhile now. Gods’illa just dropped the video for “Saviours & Punishers” featuring SeanMandela/KimboPrice -aka- big Ruk the “school-bus-through-puncher” Decepticon Sean Peeeeeee!

Gods’illa is made up of brothers Acem Eternal Mind, God Allah Truth, and Powerful Rasheem Mathematics. As they say, we can “hold this until the album drops”, (*pause*) but in the meanwhile, take their “blend tape,” CPR, hosted by DJ Lo’Down Loretta Brown, (aka Erykah Badu) as an appetizer.
