REDMAN & METHOD MAN at BB KING’s NYC

Last night Lyricist Lounge and Live and Direct collaborated to bring NYC an amazing show by two of the tri state areas best MC’S the blunt brothers themselves: Redman & Method Man. The sold out show at BB Kings in Times square was a time warp to the best of the 90’s and 2000 hip hop era when Red & Meth had the rap game in the palm of their hands. The duo breezed through hit after hit without missing a beat. The energy they gave the crowd came back to them ten fold as the audience recited every word of every song and engaged in call and response with the stars of the movie How High (Red promised a part 2 was on the way!). As the night went on guest appearances by Street Life, Masta Killa and Inspectah Deck who recited his hip hop quotable verse off triumph kept the crowd on their toes, but one of the highlights was Young Dirty Bastard. The first born son of ODB, as he channeled his dad effortlessly while performing “Shimmy Shimmy Ya!” to the crowds amazement.
With shows like this, the DipSet reunion concert that happened the night before and Lyricist Lounge next show: Capone-N-Noreaga “The War Report” 20 year anniversary concert on Tuesday, November 28th its safe to say that real Hip hop is alive and well in the streets of NYC.

Converse Rubber Tracks – Oh, Hello: EPMD [Interview]

This is such a short interview, but Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith of EPMD drop gems on how they got their first record deal, made loops by splicing tape (do kids even know what “tape” is at this point?) before samplers and the most important thing in Hip Hop – or any artform – is to “be original”. This one is right on the money! Thank you to Converse Rubber Tracks and HipHopSite.

HIT SQUAD REUNION SHOW (NYC) – Review, History Lesson & Video Footage

HIT SQUAD

Last night New York experienced an incredible reunion show by the original Hip Hop crew that paved the way for the Rocafela Dynasty, YMCMB and just about any other hip hop crew that came after. In the early 90’s the Hit Squad established dominance as the ultimate hardcore “super-crew” consisting of EPMD, Redman, K-Solo, and Das EFX. It was on EPMD’s third (and some say best) album, Business As Usual that the “Hit Squad” was first mentioned. That album featured Redman. K-Solo had been featured on an earlier album and Das EFX on their next one, Business Never Personal, which also contained the mega hit “Headbanger“.

Full article and video of “Headbanger” performed live @ Best Buy Theater February 24th, 2012 after the jump. (more…)

The folks at OutSchematic Media Agency (OutschematicTV) did an amazing job with this video of CunninLinguists rocking the HIP HOP ARENA Festival 2011, in Łódź, Poland, on June 18th.

According to QN5,

Kno, Deacon the Villain and Natti shared the stage with fellow friends Atmosphere, Dilated Peoples and EPMD at this 2 day event.

The fans are definitely throwin’ their hands in the air, so I know they appreciate good Hip Hop. CunninLinguists were on tour promoting their new album, Oneirology, on QN5 Music.
