MCMI Report: Watch Substantial Perform in the 2017 Ford Fusion (Commercial)

MCMI Report: This just in! Mid Atlantic Ford Dealers got MCMI affiliated rapper Substantial into one of their new vehicles and he made magic! Okay, this is taking “spittin’ in the whip” to the next level. Et first I was like “Oh cool. The homie Substantial (member of The Plague, Fanomm, Bop Alloy & Ef@mm) did a FORD commercial. But when I watch it, it’s more like Ford did a Substantial commercial! It’s all about him, growin’ up in DC and Baltimore, his daughter and his career as an artist. And he does spit a verse, all while driving around in a Ford Fusion.

Earlier this summer, Substantial’s song The Sub Way was chosen by UBER for their #UberSummerSeries campaignThey used the beat and hook to promote the second installment of the Uber Summer Concert Series, presented by Perrier and Hotel Indigo, but the video was of a rooftop concert featuring the artist Yuna (big up to her).

Now FORD is using The Sub Way in their commercial. The commercial and the full song are featured prominently on FordMusic.com. I’m thinking with TWO billion dollar companies wanting to use this song, it obviously strikes a chord with them and with the public.

This is a great look for Substantial who just released the Present [EP] with producer Marcus D, available on iTunes and Bandcamp [Explicit] & [Clean]. You can stream both on Spotify.

He also has a new shirt out, called the Eclipse #BackToLyrics T-shirt from Substantial & HiPNOTT Records, featuring artwork that includes lyrics from Nujabes‘ song ‘Eclipse‘ featuring Substantial from the 2005 album ‘Modal Soul‘. The digital artwork was designed by Substantial himself. Shirts availabe here. Modal Soul album here.

With so much going on, you might want to sign up for updates on Stan’s new Fanbridge Action Page, where you can ask him questions (and he actually answers them!), connect with him on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, Soundcloud, Spotify and more.

PH Memorial Friends & Family

On June 9, 2015 the world lost a valued member of the Hip Hop community, Robert Alan Diaz (September 17, 1975 – June 9, 2015), known by his stage name Pumpkinhead aka PH. We also lost a beloved friend, brother, husband, son and father.

PH in Cap

PH was known as the Underground King in the Hip Hop music biz and on the battle rap scene. He was a Hip Hop music purist, dedicating his life to creating, celebrating and preserving the art form. He was known to be extremely humble, supportive of dozens of movements, wanting to help anyone who he felt was also doing music that was good for the culture. In honor of his legacy we look to unite fans, friends and others to pay their respects to PH.

The theme is white clothing (*optional, of course), since we are CELEBRATING his LIFE and MUSIC, not mourning, with a splash of Orange for PH’s style.

PH BattlingPH grew up in Park Slope, one block from this venue, so the location has a special significance for family and friends. PH was such a loved figure in the community and around the world that his family was flooded with thousands of requests to come to the funeral. Unable to accommodate everyone they decided to keep the services small and relatively private. Regrettably, many people felt left out and needed a place to pay respects to PH.

The Family has love for all and PH’s mom, wife, kids, and other relatives will be in attendance to accept condolences, hugs and fond memories of your times with Robert. All  are welcome in love, respect & solidarity for our brother, MC, Event Promoter, friend & family man, the Underground King.

PH County of Kings Shirt

This memorial event is for the community to come together, connect with friends, speak about PH’s impact on music and on our lives, watch footage of PH’s videos and his Last Interview, and raise money for the memorial fund. Food was donated by Fat Buddha Bar (212 Avenue A, nyc), which was one of PH’s favorite hang outs.

ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO PH’S FAMILY. Thank you for your continued support.

DJ Eclipse Interviews PH on “Halftime Radio” WNYU 89.1fm (Video) + “How To Battle” (Audio)

PH went up to The Halftime Radio Show on WNYU 89.1fm, with Chordz Cordero and myself, GMS, to talk to host DJ Eclipse about his new album KNOW THE LEDGE. The conversation quickly turned to battling, then and now, the differences between the rules from the days of Blaze Battle and Braggin’ Rites and the popular battle leagues today, like GrindTimeNow and KOTD. This was a perfect segway into PH’s song “How To Battle” off the album, where PH flips the 50 Cent classic How To Rob but names dozens of MC’s in the battle game today.

The interview is dope. This is just part 2, the only part I had video of, but I will put up the audio of the rest in a few days. A lot of interesting stuff is talked about, plus a cypher between PH, Chordz and myself towards the end.

I included the full audio of the song “How To Battle”, below the video. See how many battle rappers you can catch as PH weaves their names into metaphors!
