MCMI REPORT

Bad Seed and Nottz are back with a collaborative album called No Way In Hell and the first single Sunday Morning ft DJ Total Eclipse has just hit the airwaves.

Bad Seed first teamed up with Nottz  to produce two Hip Hop classics in 1999 “For the Kids” and “Uhhnnh”, both of which did incredible sales for indie releases, the latter making it to Funk Flex 60 Minutes of Funk Vol IV: The Mixtape. After signing to a major (Warner) that then shelved their entire Hip Hop roster, Seed was sour to the industry for awhile, but released several notable independent albums over the years, remaining so-called “underground“, although some records such as Yankee Fitted featuring Mims and Talib Kweli off the album Intelligently Ignant, bubbled up slightly into the mainstream consciousness.

In 2016, Seed dropped Coreyography, which was set to be his last album, his farewell tour. After trying some acting, writing and directing, I think Seed was done with rap, perhaps feeling there was no way in hell he was going to drop another album. But the lead single “Belt Off” reunited Corey with Nottz and the results were amazing (video). The rekindling of their professional relationship led to this new producer/MC project No Way in Hell by SEED X NOTTZ.

For those unfamiliar with the Grammy Award winning producer’s work, Nottz has produced tracks for Busta Rhymes, the Notorious B.I.G, Fat Joe, Rah Digga, M.O.P, Exhibit, Snoop Dogg, Scarface, 50 Cent Method Man, Ghostface, Drake and Ne-yo just to name a few. He also works with more independent artists such as Krumbsnatcha, Apathy, Evidence and Sean Price. For his full discography, go here.

The first single off the project is “Sunday Morning” available now on Bandcamp. The Bad Seed hasn’t lost a step and Nottz beats are always bangin’ so we know this album is going to be tough!!

Let us know what you think of the track and the video and let us know, are you as amped as we are to hear this Seed X Nottz project? Also, what is your favorite Bad Seed or Nottz record? See you in the comments. Enjoy.

Freestyle Rap Saved My Life – Kosha Dillz Does ‘TED TALK’ (TEDx)

Freestyle Rap Saved My Life – Kosha Dillz

Kosha Dillz shares his adventures with TEDxKazimierz about how Freestyle Rap has transformed his life from where he was with drug addiction and stints in prison to a performance artist. Stories from Matisyahu to RZA to the BET Awards to making $50,000 outside the Grammy’s while rapping on the street … It is all in this miraculous TEDX TALK.

According to the self-proclaimed “#1 Rapper in Korea Town”

Believe it or not … a life plagued with drugs , addictions, anxiety, depression, and email happiness led to a career in rap that started from me freestyling. People say it is my most powerful asset in my shows, and it really catapulted me to be quite honest. Even when I live my life before I speak to a cashier at Ralph’s or see a pretty girl on the beach, I always have to come up with something quick to say, and that is a “FREESTYLE.”

A 34 year old New Jersey artist born to Israeli parents, Rami Even-Esh has landed himself in rap battles, jail cells, rehabs, video games, Super Bowl commercials and world tours for millions of people. He came up with the name Kosha Dillz to keep his Jewishness alive when he felt his life had gone astray. (You will hear more about it in the TedX Talk).

Freestyle Rap Saved My Life - Kosha Dillz

In the last few years Kosha has become one of the most sought out “jewish artists” in pop culture alongside Matisyahu and Drake. Dillz has penned numerous articles for Billboard about experiences with anti-semitism, addiction and the Holocaust. rhymes in English, Hebrew and Spanish and understands the power of transformation through personal experience. After a trip to Kraków and Warsaw with his mother and great aunt to walk through the concentration camp, Kosha recorded a song about Kraków for his upcoming album “What I do all day and pickle” and filmed this music video.

The talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format, but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Drake – “We’ll Be Fine” Video (Don Carlo Remix)

See what had happened was … in 2011 French filmmaker Mikael Colombu directed a video for Drake – “We’ll Be Fine” (off Drake’s last album “Take Care“), but it was never released. Supposedly, both Drake and the director weren’t happy with how it was coming out, so they scrapped it.

Colombu wanted to put it out, but couldn’t get the label to sign off on it, since they felt promoting a song off the old album might distract from the NEW album, “Nothing Was The Same“, so Colombu couldn’t use the audio for the song or it would get pulled for copyright infringement / unauthorized use yada yada. Follow me?

Colombu released it anyway, using the music “Don Carlo” by Verdi instead. The result is kind of awesome! Watching the visuals while listening to the classical music is eerie and puts you in a mood. I like it.  Let me know what you think.

POUND CAKE (DRAKE/JAY Z) vs HOOD CAKE (The L.O.X) [POLL]

Pound Cake vs Hood CakeBy now you have most likely heard POUND CAKEDrake’s single featuring Jay Z all over the radio, in the clubs, etc. If you listen to mix tapes, underground, independent or SiriusXM stations you probably have also heard The L.O.X over the same beat on their HOOD CAKE Freestyle. I liked the original when I first heard it, but I personally believe The L.O.X bodied the track incredibly, leaving me with no further interest in hearing Drake or Jay on the song anymore. But I can listen to the HOOD CAKE version all day and not get tired of it.

But some of my colleagues over here at MCMIreport.com don’t agree. They say either the original holds up well and liek both tracks equally or they think that the original still holds reign, either for Drake’s contribution, Jay’s verse or both.

What do you think? Both tracks can be found after the jump, so you can listen before you cast your vote.
