PH Memorial Friends & Family

On June 9, 2015 the world lost a valued member of the Hip Hop community, Robert Alan Diaz (September 17, 1975 – June 9, 2015), known by his stage name Pumpkinhead aka PH. We also lost a beloved friend, brother, husband, son and father.

PH in Cap

PH was known as the Underground King in the Hip Hop music biz and on the battle rap scene. He was a Hip Hop music purist, dedicating his life to creating, celebrating and preserving the art form. He was known to be extremely humble, supportive of dozens of movements, wanting to help anyone who he felt was also doing music that was good for the culture. In honor of his legacy we look to unite fans, friends and others to pay their respects to PH.

The theme is white clothing (*optional, of course), since we are CELEBRATING his LIFE and MUSIC, not mourning, with a splash of Orange for PH’s style.

PH BattlingPH grew up in Park Slope, one block from this venue, so the location has a special significance for family and friends. PH was such a loved figure in the community and around the world that his family was flooded with thousands of requests to come to the funeral. Unable to accommodate everyone they decided to keep the services small and relatively private. Regrettably, many people felt left out and needed a place to pay respects to PH.

The Family has love for all and PH’s mom, wife, kids, and other relatives will be in attendance to accept condolences, hugs and fond memories of your times with Robert. All  are welcome in love, respect & solidarity for our brother, MC, Event Promoter, friend & family man, the Underground King.

PH County of Kings Shirt

This memorial event is for the community to come together, connect with friends, speak about PH’s impact on music and on our lives, watch footage of PH’s videos and his Last Interview, and raise money for the memorial fund. Food was donated by Fat Buddha Bar (212 Avenue A, nyc), which was one of PH’s favorite hang outs.

ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO PH’S FAMILY. Thank you for your continued support.

Ep 1 – “LYRICIST LOUNGE” & Ep 2 “T.R.O.Y”
ARCHIVES

Over here at MCMI, we have been cooking up things behind the scenes, getting ready to hit you with a lot of developments and music over the summer. Last week, we launched MCMI RADIO, our Online Hip Hop Talk Show. The show airs live on Fridays between 9 – 10pm, but as soon as the show is done it is archived and available for playback, embedding, downloading, etc. so it becomes a podcast after that.

MCMI RADIO

On the show you will hear from the characters at MCMI (GMS, LR BLITZKRIEG, PH, PACKFM, MrMECC, etc), plus special guests each week, talking about music and events that are up on MCMIreport.com and any interesting Hip Hop related news that week. We usually disagree, argue, and fight about everything, so we present many sides to an argument, each week. You also get hit with some great music that you don’t hear on mainstream radio much, so tune in for that as well.

If you missed last weeks MCMI RADIO (Ep 1), you can listen to it here.

We talked about the LYRICIST LOUNGE 20 Year Reunion show we had all been to, a Jean Grae show, and we played some ShaStimuli, Punchline, Words, Masta Ace, Strickland, Fara Burns, Kendrik Lamar and DMP.

TONIGHT’S TOPIC: After the dust has settled, who was wrong, Lupe Fiasco for the T.R.O.Y beat, or Pete Rock for being too sensitive?

SPECIAL GUEST: POISON PEN of PoisonPenTV.

No internet? Not near a computer? GET THE SHOW RIGHT ON YOUR PHONE, by calling (646) 478-3599. You can press a button if you want to speak to the host, or just listen.

Go HERE to listen, starting at 9PM.

*UPDATE: Here is episode 2, in the player below. Tune in next Friday @ 9pm for the next installment, where we will be interviewing PackFM about his new CD, his experiment with stand-up comedy and more…

Raekwon @ Lyricist Lounge Celebrate Brooklyn Prospect Park 2011

RAEKWON
In case you missed it, MCMI’s own LR Blitzkrieg was on hand with a camera to capture Raekwon the Chef’s set at the Legendary Lyricist Lounge Celebrate Brooklyn Prospect Park, July, 2011.

Raekwon performs a montage of his classic material at the Prospect Park bandshell show thrown by the Lyricist Lounge team on july 9th 2011. Cash Rules, Can It Be All So Simple, classics off 36 Chambers and Wu Tang Forever … ending with Ice Cream.

Rae and his DJ gave a great performance, changing beats during every song, creating a live “remix” of each classic, before returning to the original beat to finish it. His pacing, choice of beats, and mic control were masterful. Newbies take note, learn from the older Gods. This is how you rock a show.

Shouts to Wu-Tang Clan, Danny Castro & Ant Marshall.
