MOBB DEEP: THE INFAMOUS – 20 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

MOBBDEEPshowFor those who don’t know, this Thursday SUMMERSTAGE and LYRICIST LOUNGE have teamed up to bring you MOBB DEEP “The Infamous Album 20 Year Anniversary” show, in Queensbridge Park, from 7pm – 9pm. The show is all ages (I don’t know how they pull that one off, but God bless em) and is absolutely FREE!

The Infamous, which was the Mobb’s second studio album, featured  Nas, Wu-Tang Clan members Raekwon and Ghostface Killah, A Tribe Called Quest member Q-Tip, and close Mobb Deep affiliate Big Noyd. The album contained several classics, most notably “Shook Ones Pt. II” and “Survival of the Fittest” which propelled Prodigy and Havoc’s careers forward as a group and also Havoc as producer. Before then he had never produced a record, but decided to both because they didn’t like some of the beats they got from outside producers and also because producers they did like were charging so much for a beat. One thing many are not aware of is Q-Tip mixed several songs and did a couple of beats on the album as well, credited as “the Abstract”. He was a huge fan of the group and was in a lot of their sessions with them as they recorded the album.

Along with DJ’s Hot Day and Ski Beatz, the duo from Queens is sure to thrill audiences with their current music and classics from “The Infamous” and the rest of their healthy catalogue. You will probably see a few surprise special guests light up the stage as well. You can get your copy of “The Infamous” 20 Year Anniversary – Deluxe version, with 17 new songs plus 14 remixed classics here.

Mobb Deep – Say Something Produced By !llmind

Friend to MCMI, producer !llmind is always known for that heat. Whether he is producing something for underground spitters like Skyzoo, veteran artists like Redman, or 50 Cent and G-Unit, you know your head is going to nod if it says “produced by !llmind” on it. So Mobb Deep – Say Something produced by !llmind, off of the Queens duo’s new album The Infamous Mobb Deep, is a treat we are happy to share with you.

The Infamous Mobb DeepThis is their second single (the first was “Taking You Off Here”) off of their new album, which celebrates the 20-year anniversary of their classic effort The Infamous. The double-disc LP contains new joints and all of the classics from the original LP, plus extra content from their original studio sessions.

Over the years, on wax battles with other major artists, beef, jail bids and reported internal differences have not stopped Mobb Deep from consistently releasing classic material. Throw on any album of theirs, from any era, and you are sure to find bangers that make you wanna “rock that sh*t, that real life sh*t,” ’cause “when my n*ggaz step in the place
damn, you gotta luv it.”

Listen to the joint, then head over to Amazon to support this classic Hip Hop group’s newest effort.

THE BIZARRE RIDE II THE PHARCYDE TOUR (VIDEO)

Delicious Vinyl releases three-CD box set of Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde for 20-year anniversary

The Pharcyde was one of my greatest influences to almost every MC I used to cipher with in NYC during the height of the Lyricist Lounge era NY underground scene. They offered a style of Hip Hop that was playful, lyricial and sarcastic over the West Coast version of the ‘Boom Bap’ as we called it in NY. The group offered another aspect of what it meant to be “West Coast” to balance out the Gangsta ‘G-Funk’ sound that came to dominate and define ‘West Coast Hip Hop’. Pharcyde gave us another “cyde” of music to vibe with.

Delicious Vinyl, the label that released Cali rap crew The Pharcyde‘s groundbreaking 1992 debut album Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde (quoted as Kanye West’s favorite album), has released a three-CD box set featuring instrumentals and remixes to commemorate its 20-year anniversary. Original members Fatlip and Slimkid3 have also re-joined forces with Bizarre Ride producers J-Sw!ft and L.A. Jay for Bizarre Ride Live, a series of shows where they perform the entire album…
