SUBSTANTIAL: New Album & Tour (Exclusive Interview) Pt 1

So, I got up with Substizzle in Brooklyn the other day, a few weeks before he went in for major surgery.  He was in town on “some personal, some business.” We rapped about his accomplishments, from his previous releases and collaborations, to getting his music played on MTV, VH1 & BET and his touring (Europe, Japan and U.S.).

The GOOD NEWS is that the surgery went well, Stan does NOT have cancer, but did have a suspicious and reoccurring growth, which could have been “precancerous”, so he had a small area around it removed (“laparoscopic right hemicolectomy”).

“The purpose of the procedure I had on May 10th was to remove the section of my large and small intestines, where the growth was located. As I mentioned before, “I don’t have cancer” but I have decided to do the …surgery as a preventive measure.”” Substantial reassures us in his health update blog, “Substantial’s Road To Recovery“.

Substantial will be off his feet recuperating, on some serious painkillers – which he can’t wait to be off of – for the next month or so, which means he can not continue his freelance work with Baltimore youth, nor perform any shows, so things are a little tight until he can work again.

As he explains in his health blog,

Being an independent contractor/youth worker/artist/producer has its advantages and its disadvantages. The type of work I do here in Baltimore, MD is not the type of job where I get a disability check. Fortunately, I have medical insurance (through my wife), or else we would be in even worse financial trouble but unfortunately my family and I still have the challenge of making up for the income I’ll lose over the next month or so. So for those of you who have said to me and my family “If there’s anything we need help with, don’t hesitate to ask.”, here’s how you can help. For those of you who use paypal and wish to make a monetary donation, you can send funds to my Paypal account using this email account: Stan.Robinson@Gmail.com or contact me, using the same email address, to find out other ways you donate money.

Rest assured, the Baltimore MC will be spending plenty of his down time behind the mic.

I remember shortly after J Dilla passed, reading about him making nearly all of the beats from Donuts in the hospital. … I’ve decided to release another secret promotional project because I absolutely hate the idea of asking for handouts without giving you all something it return. So while I’m home for the next few weeks I’ll be working on this project and releasing it for FREE on June 21, 2011 via my bandcamp site (http://Substantial.Bandcamp.com).

In the meantime, while we eagerly await some more music, enjoy this interview on a sunny day in Brooklyn that found Substantial in good spirits, dropping bombs that have not yet been revealed anywhere else, such as:

1 – His album, formerly titled “Mr. Robinson’s Neighborhood” has a new title! Watch to find out why and what the new album title is.

2. He will be embarking on a new tour soon and will be bringing along some fans to travel with the artists! Find out where the tour will go and how it will all work.
