KENDRICK LAMAR - B-tch Don’t Kill My Vibe

With this deep and poignant video, Kendrick Lamar reveals new meanings to his song B-tch Don’t Kill My Vibe, pronouncing death to an enemy of the community that is claiming too many sons and daughters in the name of ‘party and bullsh-t‘. Kendrick brings the hearse and coffin to the battle, proclaiming “You gon’ get this work!” to one of society’s ills that has crept into the collective consciousness and found a new marketing campaign in Hip Hop. Don’t understand what I’m talking about? Good. Watch the video. Salute Kendrick Lamar on this one, my new favorite rapper (again).

Up until then I knew I wanted to rhyme, but it was the song Ego Trippin’ that made me really take notice to the scratching and the production. the beat was so funky, the breakbeat, the baseline, the synth stabs and the scratches on the chorus made me want to some day also produce and DJ. I am sure countless artists have similar stories of inspiration from this seminal pioneering Hip Hop group that also was the first (that I know of) that had rhymes that didn’t – well, rhyme – not always at least.

So I got real exited when I saw that ULTRAMAGNETIC MC’s are on a European Tour, marking the 25th anniversary of that first album “CRITICAL BEATDOWN” with 10 shows

The Ultramagnetic MC’s have come back together to give Hip Hop Fans all across the globe what they are missing, a true authentic hip-hop show! This tour is not only for the fans they made 25 years ago but also serves as an introduction to those of a younger generation who may have never heard of them, showing them where their favorite rappers got their style from!

This just in, the Queen is back! Lauryn Hill, with an added “Ms” to her name, had this to say about the rushed release of this new music:

Here is a link to a piece that I was ‘required’ to release immediately, by virtue of the impending legal deadline. I love being able to reach people directly, but in an ideal scenario, I would not have to rush the release of new music… but the message is still there. In light of Wednesday’s tragic loss (of former label mate Chris Kelly), I am even more pressed to YELL this to a multitude that may not understand the cost of allowing today’s unhealthy paradigms to remain unchecked!

- MLH

I assume this was part of her new deal with SONY. Wow, to think after years of hating the IRS, we now have reason to thank them! Things do happen for a reason, huh?

Jay Z is back with a second song within one month (he dropped “Open Letter” previously). This one is off the Great Gatsby Soundtrack. The movie, staring Leonardo Di Caprio, hits theaters May 10th. Pretty dope chopped and screwed track, with Hov comparing himself to Marvin (Gaye), Malcom (X) and (John F.) Kennedy.

This song is nuts. The Hip Hop pioneers and innovators De La Soul continue their unstoppable career with this next classic “GET AWAY” featuring The Spirit of the Wu. Wu Tang Clan doesn’t literally perform on the track, but what they did was use samples of RZA and co. talking over an intro from Wu Tang Forever, so snippets of the Wu saying things like “this is Hip Hop right here, this is lyrics”, are seamlessly woven between De La’s lyrics. As De La pronounces “And like the Wu, we bring it to you in the purest form,” and “I just do this, I don’t have to.” Understood. And much appreciated!

“I’ve always loved the ‘Intro’ on Disc Two of Wu-Tang Forever – this erie sample with no beat, that they only talked over,” De La Soul’s Posdnuos said.”I stumbled on the original sample while crate digging one day, took it straight to the lab and added drums. The feel is definitely gritty, hard and sounds like a Wu record, so out of inspirational respect, we included featuring ‘The Spirit of the Wu’ in the song title.”

De La Soul’s “Your Welcome” drops in the Fall, but not before Wu Tang’s next album “A Better Tomorrow” drops in the Summer!

So its really an album more than a mixtape. We’ve already been playing some of these on MCMI RADIO, but here is the full mixtape download. The project features today’s generation of heat-makers alongside some of the legendary veterans that ushered in the Golden Era of Hip Hop, including Torae, Ruste Juxx, Lil Fame (of M.O.P), The Artifacts, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane and Das EFX, just to name a few.
