MCMI REPORT: Sha Stimuli – Lazarus

MCMI REPORT: Sha Stimuli – Lazarus

As tumultuous and uncertain times continue to exist in the world, Sha Stimuli provides a soundtrack for those that want to remain grateful yet continue to strive for greatness, with Lazarus.
MCMI REPORT: Sha Stimuli - Lazarus

This one slipped by without a write up from me when it came out and couple months ago, but I wanted to shine some light on it before the year is up, because Sha Stimuli is an artist who always drops knowledge along with his entertainment and there are major gems on this project.

For instance on Jail University, he schools us with “Jail over Yale, Rikers over Rutgers” about how it seems like there is more celebration over coming home from a bid than graduating college and how having been incarcerated would have gotten him a lot more street cred and promotion for his music than college.

MCMI REPORT: Sha Stimuli - LazarusNever afraid to divulge into important and controversial topics, the amount of substance Sha Stimuli puts into on “Lazarus”, will unquestionably stand out amongst other releases. If you want to know more about Sha, how he grew up, what led him to pursue basketball and then Hip Hop, his dreams to become the best MC and rich along the way, how he felt when he lost his record deal and other mishaps of his career, check out The Wake Pt 2 featuring MeLa Mechinko.

All the songs are heavily autobiographical and intensely introspective and self-reflective. This album sounds like therapy for Sha. His MCing is on the highest level, as always. He has intricate flows, schemes, rhythm and cadence, but besides that, you can tell Sha is working through his demons. Paired with catchy and meaningful choruses, it is amazingly entertaining to listen to.

Over the years Stimuli has release an enormous amount of music, which helped his core fans get to know him on a deep level. Some of the tracks didn’t match the lyricism, sonically, but this project is NOT lacking there. Your head is going to nod whether you care about lyrics or not (but we know you do or you wouldn’t be on this website).  Production is handled by Redd Lettaz, Vanderslice & Green Steez, Black Metaphor, Nytroglic, Agor, Eddie Brock 661, and Lucki Handz with features by Redd Lettaz, MeLa Machinko, Apryl Williams, and Jennifer Myles. The album was mixed by Amond “AJ” Jackson and Rob Thomas for Salem Psalms, and mastered by Brian “Change” Penny. “Lazarus” will be released through 10 Minutes Late Records.

Definitely worth a salute in 2017, you can listen to the tracks right here on the BandCamp player or follow the links to support the artist, so we can continue to hear more more Hip Hop that expresses something real and pushes the culture forward, in an era of tight pants and “Molly, Percocet“. You can download the digital release or get an autographed CD.

MCMI REPORT: SUBSTANTIAL ‘SEEDS’ EP

MCMI REPORT: SUBSTANTIAL ‘SEEDS’ EP

MCMI REPORT: SUBSTANTIAL ‘SEEDS’ EP is an instrumental project produced by SUBSTANTIAL, available now on BANDCAMP and available everywhere else on Dec 29th, 2017.

Happy Holidays from Substantial! Here’s a little something he’s been been keeping quiet for a long time: not only is he an amazing MC, he makes beats!

I produced my first beat when I was 15 years old and never looked back. But even though I have been making instrumentals virtually nonstop for two decades, these days, I have only really shared them with my students and officially released even less. – Substantial

Fast forward to 2017. With a boatload of beats, more than he has written songs to, Stan decided to embark on a mission to produce his first official instrumental album, entitled, The Garden (out in 2018). But before there can be a garden, we need seeds to plant.

MCMI REPORT: SUBSTANTIAL 'SEEDS' EP

Enters the 8 track EP, Seeds featuring seven instrumentals and one remix. The project consist of several older beats Substantial produced, plus a few new ones and an insane remix of Tonedeff’s song Moment.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Listen. Enjoy. Share.

Sean Price & Small Professor – “Refrigerator P”

Sean Price & Small Professor – “Refrigerator P” just dropped Black Friday aka Record Store Day 2017. “Refrigerator P,” a bruiser of a track from Philly producer Small Professor and the late, legendary Sean Price, released by Coalmine Records. To coincide with the single, Fat Beats will be releasing “Refrigerator P” on vinyl in honor of Record Store Day.

Sean Price & Small Professor - "Refrigerator P"

As soon as the track starts and you hear “P!” you know its on! Rockness Monsta on the hook, it’s almost a Heltah Skeltah joint. With DJ Revolution on the cuts, the song is tough.

Now available as a 10-Inch maxi-single which comes loaded with the instrumental and a special bonus beat selection called “P’s Theme.” Rounding out the release is the smoothed out “Peaky Blinders” remix of “Refrigerator P” featuring the Emerald Isle-born emcee, Rob Kelly. Listeners will no doubt attest that he holds his weight alongside P.

To make this RSD title even more of a collector’s item is the illustrated artwork designed by FRKO, perhaps best known for being Action Bronson’s in-house artist. These won’t last long, so order your copy today! “Refrigerator P” is also available for stream and download through the digital outlet of your choice.

MCMI REPORT: JAY LONZO – Last Drop (Official Music Video)

MCMI Report: JAY LONZO – Last Drop (Official Music Video)

A little behind the scenes Hip Hop trivia – yours truly recorded Jay Lonzo’s first joint Double Zero at MCMI 500 Studios in Brooklyn 2 years ago. Since then he has been heating up, following his guest appearance at BARCLAY CENTER. You might recall his first video “Live from Brooklyn” we posted awhile back (find it here) or his freestyle for Team Backpack that got heavy spins.

MCMI REPORT: JAY LONZO - Last Drop (Official Music Video)

This latest video “Last Drop” from Brooklyn’s youngest in charge, was shot by EZRU, all over the streets of Brooklyn, with a moment or two at Stonebrown Studios, where he has been recording tracks for his future release It Takes a Village.

The video is tight. Jay rides the head-nodding beat perfectly, showing you how easily he can stretch a freestyle into a catchy video, “no ad libs, no hook” and keep you listening. Lonzo is just giving you a little glimpse into his life right now, but he does slip in some knowledge on Donald Trump and Colin Kaepernick in there, plus his dreams for the future.

It’s illogical to think that soon wouldn’t be me, everybody coppin’ tickets just to come and see me (and that’s the dream”

He also drops that his album is done (no Khaled), so expect that soon.
