CHORDZ CORDERO – A Day With My Favorite Producers (Soultape)

Chordz Cordero original lyrics over instrumentals by his favorite producers

CHORDZ CORDERO - A Day With My Favorite Producers (Soultape)

Intaphaze/MCMI Records’ Chordz Cordero finally returns with his new solo project, “CHORDZ CORDERO – A Day With My Favorite Producers (Soultape)”. The songs were recorded in between albums, as a way to keep the creative juices flowing. Now it is available for free (or optional donation) on Bandcamp.

CHORDZ CORDERO - A Day With My Favorite Producers (Soultape)I decided to release it now, to show love to all who have supported my official group album with Sir Manley, The HighBred and all my projects over the years. This gives fans some more music to listen to while I am working on a solo album and some more group projects, coming soon. – Chordz Cordero

Born out of his passion for Hip Hop & Soul, this “Soultape” explores Chordz’ many thoughts and emotions on his journey through life! ”A Day With My Favorite Producers” was completely recorded and mixed by Chordz himself in his basement studio. It’s straight up Soul, unpolished and raw! Even so, he did do a video for one song, produced by Black Milk, called Street Life. The video was shot and edited by Chordz brother J’Mel Lu, who has been building his directorial resume with videos from King Jerz, V2, Rell Peso and of course, his brother Chordz, who co-directs some of the videos as well.

You can stream or download the rest of Chordz’ homage to his favorite producers from Bandcamp and if you missed The HighBred LP dropped last year, it is available as a CD and digital download as well. And don’t forget to check out the last HighBred video, 3rd Stone Blues ft PH aka Pumpkinhead, here. #ripPH

Uncle Murder Rap Up vs Mad Skillz Wrap Up vs Bekay Year in Review! (Who wins 2016?)

Uncle Murder Rap Up vs Mad Skillz Wrap Up vs Bekay Year in Review!

(Who wins 2016?)

*UPDATE: So far a lot of people are saluting Bekay on this. I decided to throw Uncle Murder into the mix as well. Are you feeling his version? Comment below. – GMS
Uncle Murder Rap Up vs Mad Skillz Wrap Up vs Bekay Year in Review

Okay by now I’m sure you’ve heard several people do these long end of the year freestyles, where they mention everything noteworthy that has happened over the year. Well, if memory serves correctly, Virgina MC Mad Skillz (you know, who battled SuperNat, had that joint “The Headnod“, was a member of the SupaFriendz, who were on Aaliyah’sAre You That Somebody“, back in the day?) Yeah, that guy, just so we are clear, made that whole idea up, in 2002, made it hot and since then it’s become a trend.

Uncle Murder Rap Up vs Mad Skillz Wrap Up vs Bekay Year in Review

Not that anybody minds! I love hearing different MC’s do wrap ups, with their unique style and take on the year’s events. But just to give credit where credit is due, props to Skillz for that. This year, he dropped another one and so did a few other MC’s. I thought it would be dope to battle two versions together, not just to see which is doper, but to see what they talk about. Do they cover some of the same topics, mention the same events? What does each have on theirs that the other doesn’t have? I decided to give local freestyle king and recording artist Bekay (from BK, where else?) a shot, being that he has been dropping consistently dope “Year In Review’s” every year since 2010.

In real life, the two artists do not have beef or anything, we are just playing a game. So let’s enjoy both of these MC’s as they help us say goodbye to the wretched 2016. Weapon (instrumental) of choice: Madskillz – Young M.A.’s “Summer Freestyle”; Bekay – Fat Joe, Remy Ma & French Montana’s “All the Way Up”. This should be interesting. Okay, fellas, 10 paces, turn around and come out rhyming.

Just for fun, leave a comment about who you think won, and what the best lines were.

Deuces 2016! Year be gone!!

SUBSTANTIAL - MADE IN MARYLAND (produced by ODDISEE)

Plague-member and MCMI affiliate MC Substantial teams up with Mello Music Group’s fellow DMV native, the producer Oddisee for Made In Maryland, the first official single off his long awaited album, The Past Is Always Present In The Future. While Substantial spent a lot of time in New York early in his career , the song is an ode to Maryland, where he once again resides since he returned to his home state several years ago. If you are a Substantial fan then you must know Steph the Sapphic Songstress and DJ Jav, who are frequent collaborators with the prolific MC. Avoiding samples, the scratches and cuts you hear are off of vocals from Joe.D.

When ef@mm member QN5 Music’s Tonedeff heard the song, he was quoted as saying “S#!t so hard, I’m about to move there!” (Sidenote: Stan please make more hard s#!t like this so Tone can move, lol. Thanks.)

Pre-orders for The Past Is Always Present In The Future – iTunes & Bandcamp

Forgot to mention I appeared as a special guest on the Fresh Juice radio show in Seattle Washington a few weeks ago, Episode #327. The show is heard on KVRU 105.7fm but is also archived for playback on demand on MixCloud.com/freshjuicepodcast.

Rainier Valley Radio/KVRU is a listener-sponsored public radio station whose mission is

“to inform, educate and entertain through locally created and community-supported programming. KVRU’s programming priorities are based on our mission and vision, reflecting principles of public interest and cultural diversity.”

The show is hosted by D-Money, Jazzy Red & Sage Prince. The Episode features new commercial and underground Hip Hop and R&B, including new music from Common, Yelawolf, the Weekend and of course the new singles from PH and Chordz Cordero, Fly Away and 3rd Stone Blues.

The hosts discussed the Presidential debate and also talked with me (GMS) about the new MCMI releases plus video from the late great PH aka Pumpkinhead and Chordz Cordero. Of course I played their game show “What??” where they ask you five questions and you have to answer off the top with no pauses to think. Even though they said I did great I didn’t get any prizes! What’s up with that? Lol. Be sure to listen! Some of my answers might surprise you.

You can Download the show at https://www.mediafire.com/?xm8rq45w5jltc4p. If you want to be their next phone interview, contact: dbelles@live.com for music and inquiries and jazzyreddtheplug@gmail.com for Seattle area concert announcements.

Meanwhile back at MCMI we are setting up to relaunch our own MCMI RADIO, this time with a video format, coming soon, so stay tuned. You can catch up on the past episodes of MCMI RADIO when we were on BlogTalkRadio in association with 6thManRadio a couple years ago, here. Subscribe to our Youtube Channel to catch the new season, plus other music and interviews we put up from time to time.

And follow my channel on MixCloud if you don’t already, to hear my DJ mixes.

The Michigan-based crew Dezert Eez kick off their 6th album (since their 2005 debut mixtape, The Realness), with lead single, “Rolex Dreamin’,” which starts off with a verse from the veteran Brooklyn MC Talib Kweli, followed by the trio of 5-Star, Nivek, and O’Nill. Kweli sounds right at home over the jazzy Thovo production. The group shows their confidence by letting him go first. Most people put the celebrity guest feature last on a track, but Dezert Eez have no need to follow that convention.

The single is off their album Late Night Cognac Sessions, on iTunes’ for pre-order, dropping November 3rd through all major digital retailers and streaming outlets, via Soul Krush. The album’s only other guest feature is Skyzoo“He is just dope!” Nivek notes—who appears on “Diamond Runnaz.” If you like the single, links to pre-order the album are below.
